Seems like evidence has finally emerged that African FIFA officials, as well as one other gentleman, since sacked, were given substantial sums to gift the 2022 World Cup to Qatar. No surprise there, but I live in hope that Greg Dyke might actually do his job. Instead of focussing on screwing up Lower League teams, he should get together with FA heads from Europe to ensure that firstly the appalling Blatter is sacked and secondly that the decision to give the World Cup to Qatar is withdrawn. The English FA should withdraw cooperation with African FAs until they get their house in order.

Agreed, but the question then arises: who should host the 2022 World Cup?
Other bids in 2010 were Australia, Japan, South Korea, and the USA, and but for the alleged corruption one of these would have been chosen to host the finals. But a new bidding process will almost certainly be required, which could bring in countries such as China or another of the South American nations.
In a few more years, Antarctica might be in with a chance..

Sepp Blater, how that man holds such a position is beyond comprehension
the mind boggles at how much corruption there must be in FIFA
The other bids weren't as good as Englands, but we didn't win because we didn't offer any bribes!

Agreed with all the above. Think all most every one in football agrees staging the WC in Qatar is going to be nigh on impossible, so time to change it.

FIFA members are just like politicians so all I suggest is let them get on with it and we just sit back and enjoy the football wherever it may be.

I thought you would take the opposing view, Andy. Qatar have cheated to win the WC bid. No different from a sprinter shooting up with steroids or a student having the answers written up his sleeve. They cheated, plain and simple and that should automatically exclude them from holding the tournament in 2022 and at any time in the future.
Time for FIFA to be disbanded and replaced with something else with much less power and which is run by all new people (that's people new to the job, not infant children).
Matt.

It's apathy Matt. If Qatar have cheated then is anybody really surprised and is anything really going to be done about it. Is anybody going to be held to account? No is the answer to all so it's not worth getting agitated about. I agree with your post but are your suggestions ever going to happen?

"All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing"
Your reasoning is sound, you or me being narked at something like this won't help, but I'd quite like to be upset about it, since it's all I can do.

He is an absolute cretin and that is low even by his grubby, scheming, cheating, corrupt standards.

The problem with Blatter is that he knows how to play the game. He doesn't care about any of the powers in the game (Spain, Italy, Germany, Brazil, and yes, even England) because he knows that to win the election he just has to appeal to the guys from the smaller countries - most of the members of CAF, CONCACAF and AFC don't care what happens in the broader sense of the game as long as they can get something out of it - so that's who Blatter goes after.

good luck with enjoying the World Cup in Qatar in 45 degrees C+. The games will be awful and people would be in serious danger. The talk about moving it to winter is just talk; there's no way the european leagues will stand for it, and FIFA will lose money when the broadcasters sue them for breach of contract (e.g. Fox in the USA paid a lot of money to take the rights away from ESPN but they've no interest in a winter tournament because that's when they have the NFL, basketball etc).
It'll have to be redone, and I expect the vote to finish up between the USA and Australia. For obvious personal reasons I'd like it to be near where I live but I'd really have no problem with it being in Australia.

This is excellent. I saw a bit of this programme by accident on sky Atlantic the other night and was well impressed.
Today on Talksport they were talking about this segment and exclaiming how good it was and how there are many people watching it online. 2,379,668 on youtube so far.

FIFA are a disgrace and I just wish all the worlds top football associations would get together to break away so they can start from scratch, then form their own federation and run their own tournament. Sport should not be so political and such a select few should never have so much influence and power.
Then again if a new organisation was to rise from those who break away who is to say they would not become the same as the money grabbing, free-loading, nepotistic, power mad, corrupt, un-caring, bullying charlatans that FIFA are.

Saw that John Oliver thing the other day; he's brilliant. He used to be a correspondent on John Stewart's Daily Show, and then when Stewart took time off last year (directing a film), Oliver stepped in to host. That's what convinced HBO to give him his own show.
Everything he says in this is spot-on. We all know FIFA are a disgraceful, corrupt organisation but we love the game they're in charge of.

Blatter has said that his work at FIFA is not yet done. God help football. All we can hope is that a serious illness gets in the way of his re-election.

I had little interest in the world cup although I love football. After the Brazil debacle and England's exit (yes exit) lastnight they can shove the tournament up their arses.! The money men, sponsors and football establishment use it as a money making machine, disgraceful! Why the hell should I be excited or frankly interested if either Brazil, Argentina or Germany win, means f all to me. At least I have the satisfaction of not being the slightest bit bothered.
I wouldn't be at all bothered if we withdrew from the whole sordid and corrupt affair
