Would be nice to attract a decent team for a pre season game!

This may be surprising to some, but many Premiership and Championship teams demand a fee to pay a pre-season friendly....and an even more unbelievable fact is that it's not uncommon for the teams manager to demand an appearance fee as well.....maybe that is why we have not played a top team pre-season....since Leeds....wonder why that is?

I don't see how Yeovil will be better for the coffers than Plymouth. They'll bring a couple of thousand and make day of it. Yeovil would bring both of their fans and only under protest.

All the phrases like "the joy of non-league" can take a hike too. We've dropped one measly division, not been dumped down into the South Devon Combination. If it were called League Three, no one would bat an eyelid. The non-league banner is very old hat now and something to which some ascribe far too much significance.

In the last decade or so, pre season has become a very lucrative time for the bigger clubs. Those at the top half of the EPL eg, get paid millions to go on Asian tours etc. Even if some of those clubs decide to send teams to the lower leagues, it would be almost certain that it would the equivalent of their 3rd teams.

Something galling about Plymouth being our 'big draw' pre-season friendly.

To think just two years ago we had annihilated them, home and away on our way to the play-offs, while they were almost relegated, and even last season, drawing with them was a big disappointment and they were closer to relegation than we were.

Could things have gone any worse? And now we will have their cocky fanbase telling us how non-league we are.

I know it will be hard to stomach but it's vital we maintain a strong relationship with Plymouth and Exeter as we'll probably be first in the queue for their fringe players who are made available for loan. It will be to our benefit if they both do well next season as much as that pains me to say.

Not really a fair comment, since it's the "big draw" of one thus far. I suspect that this news was released today in order to give the fanbase something to talk about rather than relegation and doom and gloom.

Still, you are right, it's a bit of a laugh that we're now a whole division below a Plymouth side who were utterly destroyed in successive matches not two years ago.

I couldn't care less who visits Plainmoor in the summer. So long as the manager is happy that he has a good test for his boys then that's fine by me.
I really don't see the point in an extra couple of quid (I really can't see us selling out even if Barcelona came to town) just for the boys to be annihilated and learn nothing.
