As per thread title. I met him at the CL Final in 2004 and, despite neither of us speaking the other's language, he was a charming man (most unlike Klinsmann, who was a right prima donna). A proper player, a proper man and a massive, massive loss to the game's history.
Matt.

Because I am old I can remember seeing him on the telly in the 1966 World Cup. He was an outstanding player, really gifted. Only 71, very sad.

Sad news about a truly great player. I first remember him from the 1968 European Cup Final wnen ManU beat Benfica 4-1. RIP legend!

Did a lot of work on Eusebio at University (I was studying Portuguese at the time and we were looking into colonies and how Portuguese language was affected).
Great guy, seemed fun in his interviews, his views, his love of Africa and Portugal. Sad the likes of Pele get all the limelight when he was also a great!

how could you tell he was charming if neither of you understood what the other was saying?
That said, everybody I know who's had some interaction with him has said pretty much the same thing; He was my father's favourite player, too, fwiw.
(Klinsmann a prima donna? I've spoken to him a couple of times and he's been a lot of fun. Pretty sharp sense of humour, surprisingly)
