Most Memorable Victory/Performance(last 3-5 seasons)

Post by SBP »

Ok, with everything falling apart at the moment and performances so poor they are hardly worth speaking about, i was trying to think of some of the best recent victories/ performances within the last 3-5 years and why.

I will start it off with one of my favorites about 3-4 years ago at home when we battered Shrewsbury 5-0 i think. Their keeper didnt have the best days but everything we did was excellent. That was a joy to watch, fast football played on the ground.

Anyway what are your favorites and why??

Last season at home to Aldershot, 3-0 down just after half time and we come back to win 4-3.

Drawing 0-0 with Mansfield on Saturday which felt like a win. And losing 2-0 to Burton last night which felt like a draw.

Last season, 4.3 home to Aldershot, loved the 5.0 against Shrewsbury and beating rochdale by the same score during their promotion season, however how many time have i seen a team come back to take and take a point or win against us, it just a great change to see us do it for once.

Very droll Alex!

I missed the 4-3 Aldershot game due to illness so don't rub it in anymore! :red:

I haven't really seen too many superb performances / results if i'm honest. I suppose the 3-0 win at Crewe in Ling's first season was the most enjoyable, we were so fluid on that day and it was just wave after wave of attack and a game where Bodin for once showed what he can do, sadly I've not seen it since.

I enjoyed the 3-3 draw at Macclesfield under Buckle and the 3-3 draw at Burton and also the 3-0 win at Grimsby which just about sealed our survival in our first season back.

Also i enjoyed the FA Cup win over Chesterfield a few years ago.
Strangely enough it was Pope Gregory the 9th inviting me for drinks aboard his steam yacht, the saucy sue currently wintering in montego bay with the England cricket team and the Balanese Goddess of plenty.

I've loved loads of games in that time, we didn't even win a couple of them and I didn't even go to a further couple.

0-0 at Stevenage in the second Conference year. The away end was packed, we all sang Yellow Army for an hour and a half non-stop and the game was a hugely entertaining 0-0.

I missed Rochdale 5-0 (but told the story recently) and Yeovil 4-0 in the Cup, but they were both mental.

Loads of others too. Aldershot away first Conference year 3-0, Burton away 2CY 1-0, Danny Stevens with a wonder goal. Forest Green away, 2-1, Sills in goal, 93rd minute winner and they missed a penno.

4-0 against AFCW two years ago. Last year's miracle against the Shots. The Cup game against Chesterfield two (or three) years ago at their place. Both Playoff semis against Shrewsbury

Loadsa good times to counter the bad, if we're honest.

Barnet last season, re arranged, tense, close. Great night. Probably the best game Knill has managed...
We'll be back...

Alex, if drawing feels like a win and losing feels like a draw, then how does it feel when we win (Although very rarely this season. Wait I can actually count them in my head.) ?

Drawing 3-3 with double winning Spurs only 2 seasons after they won 5-1 at Home Park in the same round of the FA Cup, Ronnie Barnes hitting the winner against Middlesbrough at Plainmoor, winning 1-0 at Villa Park, doing the double over Fulham, Blackpool, Wigan, and Hull City, beating West Ham United and the Spurs (but not the double winning ones!), winning at Molyneux, stuffing Brighton 5-0, doing Wembley for the first time (first time for Argyle was the only time!!!), Alan Welsh securing a 2-1 win at Home Park in our first league meeting for several seasons, beating Newport 8-3 (50 years ago last Saturday), gallantly losing at Highfield Road to the FA Cup holders, beating Leeds United 4-0, Stuffing Reading 3-0 on our first outing after promotion to the Promised Land, our A Team beating Kingsteignton Athletic 3-2 in the Torbay Herald Cup Final, always beating Burnley!!!!

.... well, it all seems like only yesterday!!!!! ;-)

Bliddy 'ell, Stefano - I wish I had your memory !! I can't go back that far but I very much enjoyed our victory over Di Canio's Swindon the season before last. Oh - one you didn't mention, the home play off match against Scarborough when we stuffed 'em 5 - 0 (or did they get 1 ?) when Rodney Jack was rampant. Plainmoor really rocked that night !

4-1 having won the first leg away 3-1 ... Rodney Jack scored twice in the first 7 minutes and that was it game over .... one of the best atmospheres I have ever experienced at Plainmoor .... for us old buggers it was like getting into the Tardis and being transported back several years!!! ;-)
