Paul McCallum

I may well be reading too much in to this, or getting the wrong end of the stick, but young West Ham striker Paul McCallum might be on his way to us.

I stumbled across some tweets from his teammates at WHU 'wishing him luck at Torquay', so could well be that he's about to join us on loan.

Had a couple of loan spells at our level last season, with AFC Wimbledon and Aldershot respectively, and scored 4 in 9 for Wimbledon and 3 in 9 for the Shots, so clearly knows where the goal is.

One to keep an eye on I guess.

Seems this is true. Confirmed by West Ham Transfers among others.

6ft 3 - a bit of ariel presence

Interesting....wonder if he has been signed in time to make the bench tonight?

Going by his tweets, he would appear to be heading up the M1. Indicates he may well be in attendance tonight even if he doesn't make the bench. Or he could just be heading up the M1...who knows!

Excited by this if true.

Has scored a few goals on loan before and gives us a bigger man up top. Also supposed to be fairly rapid so with him Azeez and Chappell we do not lack pace!

Another loan I know but quality nonetheless.

Now on the West Ham site. Not sure we need another striker, but welcome nonetheless.

Just got our press release, straight into the squad for tonight.

Remember seeing him for Wimbledon but thought he was crap, so fingers crossed he's a better player than that game showed.

Listening to Knill on Radio Devon after the Mansfield game I thought I had mis-heard him make a comment about the possibility of signing a forward but seems it's true!
Where does that leave Hawley? Homesick apparently so on his way out? Also what about Benyon who gets little game time to show what he can do?
But a regular goalscorer is what we need.

Pleased to have a striker in the team, but is it not defence we need work on? Cruise playing "emergency" centre back duties again?!

Fair point, but Pearce will be back for Saturday, McKenzie seems to be coming back to fitness and I'm sure that it was mentioned that Downes is potentially only out for another 2 weeks.

Once we get through the pain on tonight (and the inevitable defeat), I think our longer term problem is up front so let's hope this lad can get amongst the goals

I would rather Pearce plays on saturday in such an important game instead of getting a loan player for one game

Well done Alan Knill, just what the doctor ordered,a centre forward.I have been disappointed with Karl Hawley and think we now have a presence up front with this new guy, might even be a kick up the jacksey for Hawley. In my view when everybody is fit we have a very good squad.

Ferrarilover will be pleased if so.

Edit: Just looked at the lad's photo. FL will NOT be pleased.

A couple of questions for those who will know -
(1) Is there a limit to the number of players a team can sign on loan in a season?
(2) is there a limit to the number of loan players a team can play in any one match? :rules: :rules:

Yes and yes, although the rules depend on exactly what type of loan they are, I think it's a maximum of 5 in one match or 7 in the squad.

*Of course I could be totally wrong.............
