I know it's a day late but I spent a good part of my Sunday writing up Cheltenhem and Newport Previews.
After getting no replies for fans wanting a ride to Rochdale and getting busy in the shop I decided that as it was too late to get to Manchester let alone Rochdale. I would take a short walk up the road to Lodge Road where Yate were playing in an FA cup Game against Chippenham Town who play in the division above them. A cup upset in the offing.

I had trawled through the teletext games on TV the night before noting all the matches.I saw Yate were playing Chppenham Town. I wondered if they could repeat their exploits of last year.
Even A team called Wembley were playing Harringay Borourgh.
Wembley, hmm now where could they possibly play. They lost to Harringay by the way.

Ariving at Yate towns ground I was surprised by the larger crowd than I had right to expect 250 odd. and a couple of names sprang up when looking at the team sheet. LEwis HAldane ex Bristol Rovers was in the Yate Town line up. He came so close to signing for us a few years ago but went to Port Vale instead with Suan Rigg. He broke his leg in two places and thus ended a promising football career. He is trying to learn to live with us mere mortals now driving lorries.
The atmosphere was quite lively with a good contingent from Chippenham who were making a lot of noise.

Then a look at Chppenham Towns side. And One Lee Phillips sprand up. No. I couldn't be. Could it? Ys it was.,
Well after the match which was hugely entertaining and Yate won 3-1 with goals by Ross Staley 2 and Michael Meaker 1 (yes the Michael Meaker who played for Bristol Rovers. he's 44 now but still a big presence on the park, doesn't play much nowadays but his experience is valuable and he is assistant manager At Lodge Road.

I thought I just had to say hello to Lee and resolved to wait around untill he came out. Eventaully he did and to my surprise he recognised me. Was it something to do with my wearing our new home strip. He was all smiles considering. and we had a good chat. He is enjoying his football these days and resides just outside Swindon. he still has fond memories of Plainmoor and still keeps in touch with Lee Mansell.Tim Sills. Ncho. and many of the other lads. He remembers the fans to and asked me to tell you all he says a Big, HI THERE GUYS.

A True fellow professional and nice guy. Not many players would give the time or bother to remember the fans. He obviously had heard of me before and when I told him my New Name he said "ah so your Glostergull. Hi fella I have heard so much about you". Now Just who has been telling ? Can't trust anyone nowadays can you.
