Following his exit from BR, would we have him it back as an assistant to our First team manager(presumably Martin). Lets face it Mr Taylor must be relieved of his duties. I don't think North left on bad terms, and can only have gained much valued experience.?

Why must Taylor be relieved of his duties?
Matt.

No, no disrespect but we need to move forward not backwards. Also SN & PB left, they didn't have to, so neither wanted to be here. I agree he was in a difficult place with PB leaving but he was happy enough to stay at B. Rovers when Buckle was sacked.

Let me see, we could have a choice of 3 as assistant managers next season. 1, Shaun the sheep 2, Shaun of the dead or 3, Chris Brass.
Shaun Taylor can't make a decision on anything football wise without phoning a friend, if some are to be believed Shaun North was Buckle's cone and bib man, and they are both called Shaun, strange, could be case for Moulder and Scully there.
Then you have Chris Brass, a passionate football coach who actually appears to know what he is doing, a real tough choice that.

Excellently put - so it's obviously continue with Taylor or appoint North then!

I don't recall anyone having any problem with Taylor before Ling's leave of absence. All the bad feeling toward him comes from his time when thrust in to the limelight as first team manager.
As far as I am aware he is a more than competent coach - which is what he really is on our limited budget, a coach who performs some assistant duties.
No one was moaning last season when he coached our players to the play-offs.

A coach who performs some assistant duties. Oh my good lord, all the more reason to get rid of him, said before say it again, what does anyone think an assistant manager actually does. It's damn site more that set the cones out and do the warm ups for christ sake.
What does anyone actually think the difference between a manager and a coach is. Any football coach worth his salt should be able to plan and deliver a training session, he should be able to pick a team lay down a match plan and tactics, and know when and why to make a substitution, yes Taylor was thrown into the limelight and when he was, he was found wanting on all the above, competent, 2 letters to short.

If a coach had all those skills they would be getting paid more employed as a manager.
A manager and a coach are two very different jobs. Ask Bryan Kidd, worked as a coach at two big clubs under one great and one good manager. But, as a manager himself? He was crap!
At Torquay we have three permanent backroom staff, a manager, first team coach and goalkeeping coach. We don't have a proper assistant because we cannot afford one. As a result the first team coach and the manager share those duties between themselves with help from the board, the physio and the youth team staff. It's always been that way and I can't see it changing any time soon.

And another thing, if we sack Martin Ling and Shaun Taylor they're going to need to be compensated. Where's that money going to come from? The footballing budget. What else comes out of the footballing budget? The transfer kitty and player wages. If we do sack them both we will have even less money to bring in new players next season.

Taylor was a good enough assistant I'd say. And many of you seem to be forgetting that North basically suffered the same fate as Taylor when he had to take over for a couple games. He was completely inept and widely regarded as useless for the role. For the record, I think Taylor is a capable assistant; he just isn't a manager. My views on North are worse than that I'm afraid. I'm not sure if he is anything more than one of those 'coaches' that just puts out cones. (and i know that may be harsh)

At this moment in time there is no extra money for next season unless of course generous Thea decides to open her purse. Next seasons budget is already under pressure due to firefighting the failures of this season.
If it's Ling in charge and he's instructed to bump along with a bloated squad of under performers/under achievers then attendances will drop alarmingly and TUFC will be in real trouble.

If, on your CV, you allege you have the ability to answer simple questions, I suggest you resign from your job for being there under false pretences.
I'll ask again, maybe get a grown-up to help you:
Why must Taylor be relieved of his duties?
Matt.

In answer Philgull and this should answer Matt at the same time. Those coaching skills I listed earlier, are very simple basic coaching skills you would learn for coaching an adult team on a level 2 coaching course, I would presume that Taylor would atleast have a UEFA B.
I fully take on board the club limited finances, and nobody need tell me that some can't manage, and there is few out there who can't coach either, Taylor in my view fell short on basic coaching skills which should have been enough to take him through 6 games. Reason enough for me.
Forgot to add, a first team coach, asistant manager call it what you like, is not there as some dummy to blindly follow, he also there as a second opinion sounding board for the a manager, what sort of help to Lingy is Taylor when he doesn't appear to know what to do himself, could go through and list things, havn't the time or the inclination.
However Aldershot away would be the first place to look for your evidence.
