The magical number

In the premiership they say 40 is the magical figure that should ensure survival. In the real world of proper football of league 2, 50 should see your team avoid non-league. A few weeks back 50 would certainly have seemed that, but will it? With many of the clubs winning tonight taking them to 43 with still 7 to go, is 50 enough, I think not. Im going for 52 with goal diff being the par. Whats your thoughts as its going to be very interesting over the next 5 weeks

50 is enough.

Over the past ten years 48 has always been ok, except in 2005/6 when 49 points was second to bottom.

Think if we can beat York, they wont get 50. Not sure Aldershot will pick up that many points either.

There are still a number of teams down the bottom of the league who have to play each other, we have York and Barnet, think Plymouth do aswell, they can not all win, so yes 50 pts remains the target and will be enough.

I think 50 points will see us okay but it might well come down to goal difference. For once in the club's history, goal difference could be on our side. I just hope it doesn't go down to the last game of the season against Bristol Rovers. Don't think my old ticker would stand that !

I have thought for some time that 50 pts might not be enough this year. It would be just our luck to get the magical 50 and still go down. in 2005 we had one of the highest points totals for a club relegated from League 1...let's hope we don't this year.

So did Oxford until they got relegated with 49 points! There is no magic number other than the unknown one of being one above the bottom two after 46 games (or being equal with a better goal difference). One game at a time and grind out as many points as we possibly can.

90, that's the greatest number of all, the truly magical and consistent number. Finish 90 or higher. 91 and 92 are a disaster.
