Jarvis

Was he much cop today? I have only read two reports on the forum, and the verdicts differ.

He has never struck me as anything more than a journeyman - a forward that pulls his weight, harries the opposition, but doesn't score goals. In short, he is the sort of player who makes up the numbers in a mediocre team, but never contributes anything special. The personification of United this season, as it goes.

no, poor, ateino would have been far better at least he has pace and he was good in the air, jarvis has neither, cant see him being offered a new contract

Very, very unfair on the lad. He was not given a hope in hells chance to perform today, he is not a lone front man, nor is he a target man..so why in bleedin gods name did our team insist on banging one hoofed long ball after another up to him, he was never going to win out against a straping big centre back.

Whip in a cross on or around the 6 yard box and Jarvis will be on it. Only trouble is Thompson is the only one that can do it and he doesn't play often or long enough. Although today Macklin and Leadbitter managed it and looked lively. The service is so poor from Nicholson and Stevens he has little to work with. You have to play to your strikers strengths and pumping the ball down the middle of the field to Jarvis is proven to not yield much.

In Jarvis's defence, what service does he get? Zero from wide areas. He needs wide players providing early crosses, he didnt get that today.

I respectfully disagree. We just don't really play to his strengths. Could never doubt his work ethic though.

I think i'm with the majority on Jarvo. The boy can finish but he just needs the proper service which we generally don't provide him with but i am really pleased with his effort and workrate too when things aren't going for him. I can't see him being offered a new contract but i reckon he could be quite prolific as a poacher given regular service.

This. Given the correct service, Jarvo could easily score goals for us on a much regular basis.

Im not a fan of his but felt a bit sorry for him today, the one day he would expect the ball on the floor and its aerial at him most of the time.

He will go at the end of the season, along with quite a few.

I thought jarvis was pretty good today, the lad works really hard out there, and the service he is given is not always the best. At this level, with the types of players as a club we are likely to attract, do you really think we can get better? I mean come on, we have Logan on trial ????

Not even that anymore!

I was actually relatively impressed with Jarvis yesterday. Considering we managed to play to every attribute he doesn't have and none of the ones he does have, he worked hard, gave his all and put in a good shift.

I'd rather see him played to his strengths because that would mean we aren't lumping it up the pitch every time we get the ball.

Besides, he was a damn sight better than Yeoman.

I know this is sacrilege and I'll get shot down for saying it but a lot of the problems with our style stem from Manse in the middle. As much as I love him he just doesn't have the technical skill or range of passing for the team around him to be anything but long ball. That central midfield position is so key to the style of play that a team adopts and in our current setup players like Jarvis are never going to flourish.

I agree Phil, but its Damon too. Neither of them were good enough against Fleetwood and I just can't see a reason not to have Craig in the centre.
