Hemel Hempstead Town 1 (Ogbungbo 61′) United 4 (Young 29′, Cooke 34′, 57′, 70′)   United will head into the National League South Play-Offs in confident mood, after The Gulls wrapped up their league campaign with a comfortable victory in Hertfordshire. Although Truro’s win over St Albans put paid to any hopes of Torquay’s title aspirations, Cody Cooke’s hat-trick, following on from Jordan Young’s opener, secured runners-up spot for Paul Wotton’s side, with Hemel’s solitary response coming from Mazeed Ogungbo. Having been in fine form to clinch a 3-0 win over Weymouth at Plainmoor on Monday, United boss Wotton saw no need to alter a winning line-up, therefore making just the one enforced change, with the injured Jordan Dyer being replaced Ed Palmer. An early flurry of home goals in Cornwall may have put The Gulls on the back foot, but they certainly put everything into wrestling the NLS trophy from their grasp. Having knocked on the door with no response, the 29th minute brought about the breakthrough Torquay were after. A moment’s indecision from Jameson Horlick drew the attentions Young, who made the most of the gift offered to slot home and make it 1-0. Image Five minutes later, Cody Cooke hooked the ball home amid a packed goalmouth to double the advantage, and that was the way it stayed at the break. After the restart, United – knowing only a hatful of goals would aid their cause – went on the offensive once more. After suffering more near-misses, Cooked delivered three minutes short of the hour-mark to with an angled drive to make it 3-0 and give rise to just a glimmer of hope. Ogungbo’s shot past James Hamon shortly after swung the promotion pendulum even further Truro’s way, before Cooke’s hat-trick clincher with twenty minutes to go – boosted by a St Albans consolation effort – saw the deficit reduced to just two goals once more. That was as close as it got though, despite plenty more opportunities that came and went. Right then. Onto the Play-Offs, with the ultimate prize of promotion still there to be won.   HEMEL HEMPSTEAD: 1. Jameson Horlick, 2. Sam Adenola, 3. Mazeed Ogungbo (14. Oliver Hamstead, 90′), 4.
