Goalkeeper back at TUFC Matt Wonnacott is the latest addition to Torquay United’s 2024/25 squad, after the young goalkeeper made a return journey to the English Riviera. Former Plainmoor youth team starlet Wonnacott played a staring role in side’s treble-winning achievements in 2021/22, as Chris Todd’s Young Gulls secured a clean sweep of the South West Youth Counties League, Devon Youth Cup and Gary Else Memorial League Cup. That sparkling form soon alerted the attentions of EFL big-hitters Wigan Athletic, who duly pounced to sign the stopper in May 2022. Having progressed through the ranks with The Latics, a successful loan spell with Northern Premier League Division side 1874 Northwich last season saw Matt gain his first taste of regular first-team football, and he will now be looking to put that experience to the benefit of The Gulls in 2024/25.
