Totally agree. I reckon this guy is the best creative midfielder we have seen at the club since Alex Russell. Importantly, he also has a presence on the pitch and from what I understand is a highly popular guy amongst the team as well, which all bodes well for team morale given Buckle's priority of bringing in the "right type of people" to the club.

My big worry is if Buckle leaves. You can bet your life that if he does take up the Bristol Rovers position, the likes of Stanley, Robinson, Tomlin and unfortunately dare I say it, Zebroski will be high on his shopping list.

I do though wonder if he may be the sort of guy that could form a good coaching partnership perhaps with the likes of Branston in the event that Buckle does move on. Thoughts?

Well, no surprise really, but Morecambe have just announced their released list and Craig Stanley isn't on it. Given that he is out of contract, it''s probably safe to assume then that they are offering him a new deal to stay ... something which would have been highly unlikely under Sammy McIlroy I reckon.

They (Morecambe) have released nine players today - so plenty of scope you would think within their playing budget to offer him decent money.

I still think we have a reasonable chance of signing him though - our cause would probably be helped though if we were to get promoted and/or Paul Buckle were to stay. That said, you do get the feeling that he has gotten on really well with this new teammates down here and by the sounds of it he does seem to like the area.

From what I understand he is highly popular amongst the team and would agree with you. I am not so sure that he is quite so keen on the area mind you! Whilst there is undoubtedly a great team spirit at the club you can't help but think that may be somewhat undone should Buckle (and 1 or 2 others move on). It also appears as though our slow pace of life down here and lack of (relative) night life / things to do isn't to the liking of all the players and therefore the lure of city life (Bristol perhaps?) might be more attractive to some including Stanley maybe...

I hope I'm wrong though..

Spotted in the Gulls Nest 20 minutes before kick off, so I'm gonna stick out my neck here and suggest the OP is correct in his assertion.

Matt.

Worrying thing is that McIlroy has (as you all know) left Morecambe and it was a "problem" between him and Stanners that forced Stanners out on loan. Now, with McIlroy gone, does that mean that Stanners could be back in favour at Morecambe? Also, Morecambe annouced yesterday, that they will not be offering new contracts to 9 players. They listed the players names, on their web site, and Stanners name was NOT amongst them!! Intresting.

I believe he is planning to be at Shewsbury on Friday night for the second leg so that can only be good news. Could all depend on Buckles future, though.

I'm your biggest fan I'll follow you until you love me, Su-per, Su-per Stan-ley.

That's right, Tommy & CP Gull. That's the other "thing" that I had forgotten about, could depend on Bucks. I know Stanners is going to be at Shrewsbury, on Friday, and that can only be encouraging news for TUFC. Stanners did say, on Twitter, the other day, that he had "Been down to the gym and getting ready for hols". No mention of anything else.

I'm pretty sure he's waiting - like the rest of us, and probably even the manager - to see which division we end up in. If we get promoted it'll be far easier to keep hold of him, especially given that it looks like Morecambe aren't going to release him.

He still needs to accept a contract to stay though. Last i heard he was leaving anyways, as he was saying his goodbyes to the morecambe lot and also wish the guy who was going to manage them good luck and hope he does well. To me that looks likes hes leaving them.

Just wonder who ever is in chrge next season will offer him a contract.

Yeah, but before McIlroy left there was zero chance of his ever going back to Morecambe (and who can blame him, I woke up on Morecambe beach once after a particularly rough night and though the place had been nuked); now that there is a new manager one of the biggest impediments to him remaining has been removed. I still think it's more likely that he'll move one, but what I'm saying is that we come even more appealing if we're in a higher division. And from what I've heard of Stanley, he's a player who could step up.

I was speaking with Craig's dad after the Shrewsbury game and he said he wanted to play for us but the club were waiting to see where we would be before making an offer. He intimated that as long as the offer was reasonable he would more than likely sign.
I also asked him if it made any difference with the situation at Morecombe changing. He said he doubted it very much and they hadn't been in contact with him at all.
