Doesn't have to be "best prospects" - that implies a young player, and while that's certainly a possibility, I could also see a League 2 club have an over-abundance of central defenders and decide to ship one of them out. Mark Ellis last season was an example of that. As long as they are an upgrade of what we currently have, their age is almost irrelevant.Cheddargull wrote: 29 Aug 2023, 19:17 I don't think clubs are going to lend us their best prospects because they would feel they are wasting their time against semi pro opposition. And to be honest it's going to take a lot to sort out our defense, even if we get a good one it's no guarantee of success, remember Nico Lawrence played very well for us last season but that didn't stop us getting relegated.
also - we do have a fairly decent record of blooding young players anyway. Granted, it's mostly been in the division above. but Sherring, Randell, Armstrong, Perritt - these are players who've come to us pretty young and are having decent careers. You could probably even add Joe Lewis to that list too. The short term loans seem to be the ones where we've struggled (like Crole, or Aguiar, or Rob Street, etc etc)
If you're looking at loans when we were in NLS last time, we did have CLE, Jake Andrews and Opi Edwards. Ok, there was very much a link between us and Bristol City at the time, but still. Once the window closes, I can see a club considering a loan to us favourably, given the record that Johnson has had with loanees in the past few season.
