He has some defensive ability and could cover at wing back if we could retain him.

We offered him a deal, he turned it down, we are due compensation when he moves to a new club as he is under 23 - all makes sense

However to be due compensation does the contract have to be on offer until he moves? Because surely if we withdraw the offer we are no longer due the compensation?

On this basis to receive money for Ajala the contract must still be available to him, and if it is, he could accept the deal at any point and play for us?

Anyone with better knowledge of the regulations?
Having looked up the rules. as far as I can see..they state that a contract as good if not better has to be offered to a player.. if that player refuses the contract then after a set amount of time it lapses , but we are still then entitled to a fee. if that fee cannot be setlled between clubs then a tribunal will set the fee.
As regards his age.. I think you will find it's under 24 that the rules apply to and Ajala won't be 24 until September

I meant under 24, got mixed up with saying as he was 23.

I hadn't realised about the time lapse, I guess that is to protect clubs and stop players doing as I mentioned and trying to get a better contract elsewhere whilst having their previous club to fall back on
