Macklin is on trial at Hereford. A lot depends on which Macklin turns up in those two games I suspect.

No offence to Lloyd, but I hope he impresses them and we can get rid of him. It'll be good to get some genuine options on the bench

Do you get the feeling Ling does not want Macklin around and see's him as a distraction to others careers? (eg Leadbitter?).

Ling - "He needs a reality check if I'm honest, in life and in football."

Thats possible Rich, however doubt it, Lingy appears to have opened a olive branch for Lloyd by giving him asquad number for this season, had he wanted to get rid I am sure some agrreement could have been reached on paying up his contract.

For me their is a good player in Lloyd Macklin its in there somewhere, I hope this move to Hereford comes off, as I fear the damge might already be done for him here at Torquay and we might end up with a situation, with a player on the books for a season who is not going to contribute anything to the squad/first 11.

Sounds to me all Lloyd has to do, is get his head down and work hard and concentrate on being a footballer, lets hope he shows that at Hereford and Torquay can move on.

Good for him - hope this works out for all parties.

I had a brief chat with one of the dads from my daughter's class who was at the game. He said Macklin was the best player on the pitch. Fingers crossed Ling's words and a change of scenery is what he needs and everyone ends up happy with the outcome.

Is it a trial with a view to a loan or a trial with a view to a permanent signing?

If it's the former and the player does well, is it any guarantee we get back a player with his finger pulled out and in form ?

If it's the latter and the player does well, are we in for a windfall of a transfer fee of Bobby Olejnic proportions ? :|

I should not of written that last bit.

One more game then and there's a chance we might get rid of him. Agree that it's best for everyone that he moves on, and hopefully with the space generated from Macklin and McPhee there'd be enough left for another first team attacking player.

They didn't appear to be impressed with him on their fans' forum but were (it appears) genuinely disappointed that they missed out on McPhee

no news on whether hes going or not? better to let him go, if hes a) not right for ling and b) costing wages.
Even if there is talent, if Ling says he aint got the right attitude then id believe that. Martin seems very straight and fair but a nice chap too and has done great for us. So lets hope a club takes Macklin and frees his wage(whatever it is) up and can use towards a centre back.

I believe the arrangement with Hereford was for them to have a look at him in two trial games. Having played (and scored) against Yeovil on Saturday, it seems that Macklin will have another chance to play again tonight when they visit Evesham. I would imagine a decision on whether things go any further will be made pretty soon after that.

Hereford are obviously not looking for an immediate return to the Football League if they are looking at players like McPhee and Macklin.

Well, this throws a spanner in the works, it seems that the Evesham v Hereford friendly was abandoned following a collision between two players. Both players seem ok, and the game was called off at the insistence of a man called Foyle (who I presume is the Hereford manager).

Wonder what happens now?

Matt.

Ps. Hello all, lovely to be back
