I dont see this as a good signing,i see it as a sensible signing,we all know our player budget is screwed,so why,oh why blow a large % of it on a second "no1" keeper to warm the bench.
I fully agree with a good keeper wins you points,my view is Ricey's confidence in the end was shot to sh#t here,he needed to go away and have lots of games at a less pressured level,he has done that, and from what i can gather the lad is full of confidence now,so yes this would be a risky signing, but like McPhee .Ricey in my view is worth a second chance, and judge him like McPhee on what you see now,not on what we saw, before.
If Olejnik and Rice cost the same in wages as Bevan and Potter did last year, then I think we're much better off now than 12 months ago. Olejnik will hopefully play every minute of every game (like Andy Marriott did in 2005/06), and the extra quality over Bevan will show over the season.

Agreed. Assuming (hoping) that Olejnik is as amazing as all Gulls fans seem to assume him to be then Rice should be fine as a cheap backup. No point spending high wages for someone to get splinters in their bum when money is tight and could be better spent elsewhere. There's always emergency loans (available all season for 'keepers) if Bobby gets injured.
Gary Johnson's Yellow Army! Yellow Army! Yellow Army!
I actually quite liked MR when he was here before (how many TQY goal keepers have saved a penalty at Wembley?) but I would be dissapointed if this were to be true. It says a lot about our intentions, surley there must be an older experienced keeper available or a young un cutting his teeeth come to that. I know finances are an issue but this would be false economy to issue a contract to him. Hopefully Olejnik will stay fit but then he might not or he may not play for any manner of other reasons, what is to happen then? A loanee? Dissapointed, sorry Martin as your nice person.
Perhaps we should have signed a 'better' keeper with higher wage demands. And forgotten about the left-winger we still need? Maybe we should forget about another striker, because what we really need is a brilliant reserve keeper to sit on his arse all season.
Our budget will only stretch so far, so we have to spend it where it's most needed. With this in mind, i'm not sure i understand the logic of people moaning about the quality of signings, and then threatening to deprive the club of even more money by not turning up. If we all did that, it wouldn't be long until there was nothing left to moan about...

Agree
I look forward to the coming season with ENTHUSIASM (unlike some of the half full/half empty mob).
When I collected the season ticket today, I also purchased the "3 for £25" ticket.

Spot on Shane,we have to realise that our ave attendance of 2639 is the whole reason why we are looking at Rice as a "no2 " keeper rather than Jake Cole as a joint "no1" keeper.
We all want league 1 football here at Torquay,to support that our club need atleast an ave attendance of between 3500-4000,not 2639,the income gained of that as Shane says will only strech so far.
Ive said it before and will say it again,us TUFC fans have to gain more of a "siege mentality",when the going gets tough, the tough are suposed to get going, not chuck there hands up in the air and say, feck it iam not going again.
My message to Torquay fans everwhere,is get out next season whenever you can and suport your team, then our club will have the money to sign better players.
I still think that an out field player should be trained up as an emergency keeper, & an experienced keeper arranged "on stand by" for an immeadiate loan signing should the need arise. Prehaps Neil would be able to loan us the QPR third choice keeper who would more than likely be well up to the job.
I also can't see a problem with our keepers doing specialist training one or two days a week with the Plymouth & Exeter keepers, & therefore sharing the expences.
Rice is crap. The is no other way to describe him. he is the worst keeper I have seen at Plainmoor.
Why, oh why, simply because he is cheap are we going down that road again. What is the point of signing him simply incase our keep gets injured. How likely is that? We are wasting a salary on someone who has already proven to be inept with us.
So if Olejinik gets injured does that mean we are inflicted with Rice in goal again. What is the betting it will be away at Home Park. You may as well put Danny Stevens in goal. he could not be much worse!!!!!
