Funnily enough I think the atmosphere was at its best in recent times when the ground was only three sided. With all the home support either packed into the family stand or the pop-side a really good noise was generated, in particular I remember it being electric in the game against Plymouth where O'Kane scored that worldy. Obviously now the support is much more spread out and that has undoubtedly had an effect on the atmosphere when you consider for a number of matches the ground as a whole is not much more than a third full. I have been in the bench and the pop-side, whilst the view is magnificent from up there it's fair to say the support is terrible. I sometimes felt like I was the only one in my area giving any vocal backing to the team at all. I think it's up to those on the pop-side to raise their game, I'd like to hear the strong band of singers on the halfway line we had a few years ago but who of late seem to have disappeared.

it was just quite funny reading it after i gave it a mention on the footballing terms thread.

No drum and when they have a drum they have one drumstick. I've been on the drum sometime, but that's when we've had a drum and two drumsticks. Exeter City away was the best time for me on the drum, but we need a drum every week with TWO drumsticks and a good enough drummer!

I think Portsmouth gave us a lesson in vocal support tonight. What the hell will they be like for the league game !!

Yeah, actually Dutch, you've exposed a gaping hole in my last post. Should have paid tribute to the support offered by the travelling fans. Despite their troubles, their support is as hardcore as ever.
Dear Manchester City fans: that is how to support a team, not throw a wobbler every time your shitty bunch of arseholes goes a goal down. Pricks!

Good sounding drum, well played, and songs sung at the right speed. Yep love or hate them, thats was a lesson in how to support your team.

It's incomparable though due to the difference in fanbase size. If you want an example of what we should aim for then may I give you an example from Aldershot fans. I went to a night game only a few years back at Saltergate, Chesterfield v Aldershot and I sat in the home stand. All I got in my earhole all night was 'the shots' drumming , bouncing and singing and I think they lost 4 or 5-0!! That will always stick in my memory as I thought they were incredible. Forget Pompey, they have loads of fans who want to sing and we have 38. We should be looking at creating a serious pocket of die hards at away games so we get noticed. It's never going to happen at home games as for 90% of the crowd the vocals are half hearted.

If we can recreate somewhere near the atmosphere we had at Shrewsbury in our play off semi with around 150 people then we're in business. That night was rocking but why do we need an 'occasion' in order for us to do it? Just do it anyway.

If we had a couple of drummers like Portsmouth did yesterday it would really help!!

We showed the Shots how its done a couple of seasons ago, Awayday blew their drummers out of the water with a faultless display. The Yellow Army responded in unison and it was one of the best away games Ive been to for atmosphere. We can do it, we've just got to recreate that at home.

your right we dont need an occasion, lets just do it, its not hard, people just need to open there mouths and sing, sometimes on the popside its like a bloody library, come on people, and whats happened to the yellow days they use to have, lets get the drummers back, when we played at home park 2 seasons ago we were electric, even the gargs said we were loud that day.
