Pretty good news for us really, if we are cutting down to 14/15 senior pros then I don't think Jarvis is quite good enough to hold down a first team role. He suffered from our formation as he was never going to play over Howe and so got shunted out to the wing. I would back Knill to use the budget better on a replacement.

As said, Saah and Downes are the important renewals. Cruise and Yeoman would be good for development players.

Is it only me or is anyone else just a wee bit worried what will happen if all these players we are lauding don't sign for us. It's all well and good saying goodbye to Ryan and Rene.( Boy does that ever sound like a double act on TV. In actual fact there was a Ryan and Ronnie).
Anyway back to post.
If Rene leaves and with Ryan gone. What if Aaron leaves too with Bryan Saah. and we do not get Benyon. where will all this optimism go then. we need to be realistic. I think it won't be quite as easy getting good players down here. it's the same old story. we are too small and way out for players to consider us. I won't get too excited until we actually get some of those players signed up.

I have to admit GG that i have indeed considered who we will get to replace these players. I've no qualms about letting them all go just that if we end up having to assemble an entire first 11 near enough over the summer then are we going to get at least like for like? I'm sure Alan knows what the score is and he will have everything done and dusted for the beginning of August but your concern has crossed my mind.
Strangely enough it was Pope Gregory the 9th inviting me for drinks aboard his steam yacht, the saucy sue currently wintering in montego bay with the England cricket team and the Balanese Goddess of plenty.

We've built a reasonable team from a (retained) squad of four... time will tell.

i think the fact that AK has offered him sh*t money suggests he wasnt that bothered and probably has someone in mind anyway.

Fair question - as soon as Jarvis doesn't sign for us, he is useless. Typical reaction really. The only real note of concern is that Howe and Jarvis were two forwards who were offered contracts so they were players who were wanted by us. There is no way that Benyon is a certain signing either so that could leave us with Yeoman (assuming he doesn't turn us down as well).
However Knills comments seem to suggest that he wasn't too bothered about keeping Jarvis either!

I am more disappointed by this than Rene leaving. I think given a run in the side under Knill, Jarvo would have done the business.

Nevermind, Im sure AK has back up plans in place

Reading Alan's comments, it seems he just went yeah mate go and sign there. Seems like Knill wasn't overly concerned about it. Think we could use the money in other ways being an even fresher team in.

I did like Jarvis as a player, but is his level bottom and of league two?

Agreed, I think Knill recognised Jarvis's many limitations and saw him as a sub/squadman at best, offered him financial terms accordingly. I think we can see this as a good sign that AK is looking at better quality as part of our starting front line.

With regards to replacements, there's no doubt that we are still at a disadvantage to some London/Midlands/Northern clubs in terms of relocation convenience, and in many cases money, but still we have shown over the last few years we can attact the occasional quality player.

I hope you are right, I would not like to think that it was because of a shortage of funds. If this is the case then other teams will easily be able to tempt Saah & Downes away with better offers. They are both "Ling's players" & don't need to show any loyalty to A.K. so perhaps wages will play a very large part in any decisions that they may have to make.

I'm not too worried about losing Jarvis but it wouldn't surprise me if he did well at York. I don't think he was as poor a player as some made out, although I think losing Rene is a much bigger hole to fill.

As for those saying a forward line of Benyon, Yeoman and one other...are they mad? That sort of forward line will see us struggle all over again. We certainly need much more quality up front and we have lacked that for two seasons if Howe has been injured, suspended or off form.

I think it time we just let Mr Knill work his magic, there are many players out there who are seeking a club and this should hopefully have a knock on effect with wages. With the players wages going up through the roof and attendance staying fairly static something has to give.
