Now Wayne Carlisle has been released by the club, I feel a brief synopsis of his vital contribution to the successful promotion season is in order :

Scored the winner (82min) against Woking home : 1pt turned into 3pts.

Scored the winner (90min) against Cambridge away : 1pt turned into 3pts.

Scored the winner (87min) against Grays away : 1pt turned into 3pts.

Scored the winner (90+2min) against Altrincham away : 1pt turned into 3pts.

Without those extra eight points where would we have finished ? In eighth place four places off the fourth playoff position between Kettering and Crawley.

Then there s THAT cross against Cambridge at Wembley.

Thank you ever so much Wayne for your vital contributions. I wish you the best of luck in life and your career as you move into the future.

Stood right at the front at the end for this match, with the little gang with whom I attend matches, as well as Paulie Bastard and the "Chief Supporter." This was back in the day when Wayno was still unpopular with some elements of the fanship, but my small posse cheered him on relentlessly all match. As soon as the ball came over from the left (long raking ball, probably Nico), Sillsy was onto it, but Wayno called him off (loudly) bought it down and killed it dead before taking one look up and curling the best shot I have ever seen into the top far corner, beating the Cambridge 'keeper by about 8 feet in the process. He immediately turned on his heel and ran straight over to us in the corner, lept on me, covered me in his sweat (ewwwww), swore a little, then ran off, only for the rest of the team to do the same, it was frigging horrible.

Went to this game also. Forgot my coat so Ma bought me one at the services on the way up, only to take it back on the way home, hahahaha. Stood on the horrible terracing here for ages, watched us fail to beat one of the worst sides in the world, then PB pulled a master stroke in the 90th minute when he bought on Wayno who had scored late in the previous match against Grays Athletic (as mentioned). We were shooting the wrong way, so it was at the far end, but his dipping drive, over the goalie and in off the underside of the bar was a superb goal. My running 40 yards to celebrate "with" the home fans was not an appropriate thing to do, but it was amusing.

Good times.

Matt.

I'm pleased this has brought back individual memorable moments and reinforces Wayne Carlisle's contribution to Torquay United.

"He played for the sh*te, but now he's alright, walking in a Wayno Wonderworld."

Wayne Carlisle : Torquay United Legend.

I would rather - "He played for the shite" to be honest, he was always good - remember when he played against us for the greasers?

Didn't he score in the play off game at their place? As far as non league went, he was probably the best winger there. It's sad to see him go, but I trust Buckle to make the right decision. He gave Carlise the chance to get fit at the end of the season and ultimately it hasn't worked out, but i have no doubt that he's good enough to find a non-league club.

Scott : changed as requested. That is listening too much to the chavs and being to quick to hit submit before the proof check.

Yeah, I do remember when he played against us. Did us a couple of times didn't he ?

I will always remember Wayne Carlisle as the man who gave me the opportunity to hug Helen Chamberlain last time we played at Cambridge United....everyone was going completely mental when he scored the only goal right at the death....and I got carried away a bit

Thank you also to Mini Mid Devon for not telling his mum !

Article from on line version of today's Herald express :

"Former Torquay United winger Wayne Carlisle has joined his former Gulls teammates Lee Hodges and Steve Adams at Truro City.

Carlisle, 31, who was released by Torquay in December, is now working in the sports department at Ivybridge College.

But City manager Hodges said: "Wayne has already joined in several training sessions, and I am delighted to have signed him."

Carlisle is expected to make his debut as Zamaretto (Southern) Premier leaders Truro take on third-placed Cambridge City at Treyew Road this afternoon."

Unsurprising, and a great move for Wayno. Truro are looking good for a play-off spot at least, and he will be a class act at that level. Plus it gives him the chance to move into other things. Good luck to him I say
