Pearce played right back and had a good game apparently

Yes, my assessment yesterday was that Pearce had his best game at right-back. In fact he looked more like the player we had last season.
You're being too harsh on Rice but for him in the first half that second goal wouldn't have mattered as the game (and the tie) would have been long over.
Campbell made a huge difference when he came on. He certainly looks like a goalscorer. He set up Bowman's goal and went close twice himself.
For me if you bring in loan players you play them in the team. Start Tuesday with Campbell and Reid.

Thanks for those 2 replies^
He'll probably play there next saturday then!
Agree with Brucie in the fact that Reid has pace and therefore should play out wide ahead of McQuilken

I wouldn't mind seeing Guegan given a game as a holding midfielder. Apparently he can play in that position and would add a bit of physical presence and height in the middle of the park, which we're desperately - and quite literally - short of. Richards isn't afraid to get stuck in but too many times this season our powderpuff midfield have been outmuscled and overrun.
McQuilkin looks a tidy player but there's less meat on him than Briscoe's little toe. On paper, Harding should be the ideal foil for someone like Young and Richards - six foot, decent passer and plenty of experience. But he gets injured if he sneezes and will be off in the summer so it's a pretty pointless exercise.
I'd play our strongest team, though. Maybe leave out Downes as he's just returned from injury and we'll need him for the Trophy. Dawson can slot in at right-back and Pearce can take his natural position alongside Gus.

Rice

McQuilkin Young Richards Ajala

With Chapell and Cruise back in when fit, would give McQuilken a go out wide, think he's got the ability to deliver some great balls into the box, personally don't think he's strong enough to be in a midfield two.
442?
Why on earth would CH want to play that kind of formation?
I would either save my best players for Saturday or play Saturday's players and formation this Tuesday.
For me, the play offs are a dream as we are too inconsistent.
Let's put all of this seasons eggs in one basket and try a get to Wembley on Saturday.

The play offs are a distant and fading dream for us, and I can't see us finishing on the 70ish points required when we're only currently sitting on 46 with only 13 games to go. For me, the FA Trophy is priority now.
I would like to see us change the attack more than anything and give some of the new lads a chance to prove themselves. A strong finish to the league campaign would be welcome, but the game on Saturday is huge for the fans and the clubs finances.
I would like to see Jamie Reid have a chance as well as Campbell. Maybe Ofori and Campbell starting would be a good way to go. Young is key in any game for us but I wouldn't be surprised to see him rested up for Saturday. I'm not saying change the entire starting XI, however 4 or 5 changes on Tuesday wouldn't surprise me. This may be a chance for young Liam Prynn to get some game time. I wasn't at the Wrexham league game so would like to see him get a chance at Plainmoor.

Alfreton (h & a), Telford (a), Welling (a), Braintree (a) Altrincham (a) ...... these were all supposed to be 'winnable' games. I'm sorry but anyone who thinks we've got any chance of getting into the play offs this season is delusional. Our best bet of getting anything out of this season is the F.A. Trophy and I'm with Brucie - rest as many of the players as possible who are likely to feature on Saturday. Midfield is where we're stretched but I'd play Yeoman there in place of Richards. Keep Courtney fit for Saturday - we need him !Modgull wrote: Looking at the matches we still have to play in the league we have a relatively benign run-in with us only playing one of the top sides (Macclesfield) on the last day of the season and an awful lot of winnable matches against lowly placed teams.
I bet Wrexham's team on Tuesday night will bear little resemblance to last Saturday's line up ....... and they've got just as much chance as getting in the play offs as we have.

It's far from delusional to realise how imperative it is that we try our utmost to get into those play-offs until it's impossible to do so. Who remembers the last 3 FA Trophy winners without looking it up? If we were to look at any other club and say "They won the FA Trophy" would it impress any of us? The only thing we should be doing right now is trying to get out of this league. You guys go for the Trophy and see just where we end up, it won't do us any good whatsoever. Money? We'd earn many times more just by getting back into the league. Staying in this league any longer is just going to see us fall lower and lower with our expectations and ambitions. How some people attach any importance to it is beyond me, short term blinkered viewpoint at its best. Did anyone think we could go on that winning streak earlier in the season? Did anyone think we would be so bad immediately after? The same group of players can do the same again and although it is ulikely it's still possible and while other teams drop points against each other a team can come from nowhere and scrape into the play-off spots. While we can, we should be throwing all our resources at it, it's the holy grail for our club.
FA Trophy? Do me a favour.

The probability of us reaching the play offs with the other teams involved are minimal. We have played a mid table Wrexham twice recently, once in the league and again in the Trophy and haven't done so well.
However the odds on us beating Wrexham by either 2 goals or 1 and penalties, at home, is very possible.

Nothing can be ruled out until it's mathematically impossible. Funny things happen in football. Teams doing well can suddenly become a bag of nerves as the season's climax approaches. Others can unexpectedly go on a run of great results. Yet others can just get lucky - or unlucky. So, while the possibilities are still there, however faint, we should go for them.kevgull wrote:The probability of us reaching the play offs with the other teams involved are minimal. Success comes to those who don't give up.

Totally agree, Dave. The priority, whilst there remains a slim chance of reaching the play offs, should be the League.Southampton Gull wrote:It's far from delusional to realise how imperative it is that we try our utmost to get into those play-offs until it's impossible to do so. That said, do I think CH should make several changes to the team on Tuesday? Yes, I do, quite simply because I think it may well not only give us a better chance of winning against Lincoln but also getting past Wrexham on Saturday.
Personally, I think giving Dawson a game would make sense as he is almost certainly the best Right Back in the club. I would also consider playing Downes and trying Guegan out as a defensive midfielder which may well suit him better. I would also bring Cruise in and give young Ives a rest too as it sounded like he got run ragged on Saturday and could do with the rest.
On the wings, if fit, we have Chapell and/or Briscoe who may well be a better option for both games than the ineffective Cameron, whilst up front surely Campbell will get a start and possibly Reid too - with every likelihood that Greavsie will revert to his preferred 4-4-2.
Given the recent additions to the squad (Guegan, Dawson, Campbell and Reid) I'm really not sure what our best starting XI is anymore and perhaps the same can also be said of Greavsie! In reality most of the squad are much of a muchness with only a few outstanding performers such as the likes of Young (although his effectiveness has faded quite dramatically in recent months), Bowman and Ajala - others may feel differently, but personally aside from these three it wouldn't matter too much who you pick to make up the rest of the side, they would have just as good a chance of getting a result as the team we put out on Saturday.
We should always select our strongest possible side to win any league game. We still have a small chance to make the play-offs and we should go for it. I don't want to hear excuses that players are tired requiring being rested. Training can be structured for playing two games in a week. Sports nutrition has come along way with players looking after themselves. If a player is carrying an injury then that's a different matter .
Its not an excuse is it - the third game in a week on a heavy pitch will suit Wrexham because we have to force the pace of the game they don't. Sports nutrition has nothing to do with it. Leg weary players on Saturday will NOT get us past Wrexham - fresh players might.
