Yes probably both games are going down the swanee. Terrible weather coupled with the problem area in front of Bristows Bench probably means that we are not going to get any home games on before the end of the season where there is anything more than moderate rainfall on the day of a game.
You do get the feeling that the continuing pitch problems may cost us our league status in the end. Very difficult when you win an away game and then you don't play for three weeks. By the time the next away game comes around you probably have to win that as well to stay in touch.
Points on the board are more valuable than games in hand - its a very difficult situation.

On the upside at least Fanny **** won't be able to play - he would drown.

thats gonna be so frustrating, and is gonna lead to my worst total of games attended in a season for years! what with the york and burton games being tuesday nights, if these two are cancelled i think i'll end up with a measly 4 games! scunny, mansfield, chesterfield and the gas

Might as well call it off now 30-40 mm of rain forecasted for friday night saturday morning. No way that any pitch can cope with the amount of rain we have had over the last 8 weeks or so. Unless you have Prem league money for drainage and covers.

Judging by the current weather forecasts, it looks as if the Plainmoor pitch is not going to be waterlogged.

Despite being on a hilltop plateau, it's going to be flooded..

completely battered by wind last night, rain actually hasn't been too bad today, tomorrow looks worse, the high winds are pushing it all on

The club will want to give this game every chance of going ahead, CH will want to build up some momentum after a fantastic away win last week, and a postponement costs the club a small fortune, wouldn't expect and early decision to be made. Trouble is, for reasons that should be obvious to everyone, if not gord help us, the ground staff can't put the pitch covers down and leave them down (kill the grass, just in case) again obvious, saturated ground may not have any standing water on it, but any prolonged rain fall can not/will not soak away, looking at the forecast can't see it being on, remain hopeful though.

i wonder how much it actually does cost to have a postponement?

if the away team doesnt leave home i assume there is no charge, if they are already in the area then we have to meet all their costs i believe, assuming that the average team probably bring 25 people, thats quite a bit of money?

other costs

advertising
programme printing (scrapped or reused for rearranged fixture)
food bought in (maybe incurred by the contractor)
ticket printing
staff wages (stewards etc, do they have to be paid still?)
the cost of attempting to drain the pitch

our last home game was the 4th of Jan, cash flow is going to become a problem we don't need if this saturday and tuesday are off!
