While it might seem a strange move and a bit of a slap in the face to Knill who certainly gave him plenty of opportunities here and also had some nice things to say about him to the media, I guess ultimately it was the draw of playing for his old boss, Nigel Worthington, that was the clincher.

Worthington would have given Jarvis his first pro contact at the age of 17 and worked with him for three years at Norwich before Worthington moved on, so not dissimilar to the reason for Jarvis moving here in the first place, the chance to play for a Manager he had worked with and been appreciated by in he past (Ling, in our case) was obviously something he felt he couldn't turn down.

Thank him for his efforts, and wish him the best for the future. Not even slightly disappointed to see him leave though. Ideally, he'd have stuck around as a squad member, but if he'd been starting regularly next season, I'd have had concerns.

Knill comments below on it suggests he was only seen as a squad player and was happy for him to go:

"We offered him a deal and to be fair, it wasn't the most money. I more or less said to him that if someone came in with a better deal and at his age, with another baby coming, he would have to take that," said Torquay boss Alan Knill.

"It was one of those situations where Ryan didn't have a choice. He did well for me at Torquay and good luck to him at York."

I reckon it's quite possible. Though all you can really tell from his comments are that Knill couldn't care less about Jarvis leaving. That bodes well for the quality he's looking for.

Could be Matt or just that Knill didn't want to waste more money than would be reasonable just for a player to sit on the bench. I don't know.

I liked Jarvis, always worked very hard, however he's not irreplaceable! Benyon, yeoman, and one other hopefully!

I concur with Gullno4, I liked Jarvo, thought he was an ideal squad player, if not exactly the type of guy you'd be hoping to see in the first XI every week. Capable of doing a job when required, good finisher, footballing intelligence wasted in a body designed more for comfort than speed. If he'd been quick, he'd have been an excellent asset. I too agree with Andy that they might well be considerably improved over their last outing. Like us, they had to go on their worst run for 500 years to finish where they did and they STILL didn't get relegated. There is a good club there, it just needs to avoid losing 376 consecutive matches and they'll do just fine. I'm not convinced they'll do as well as top three, they might not even make the playoffs, but I think it's likely they'll be comfortable all season.
