Crawley sell Matt Tubbs to Divison ONE Bournemouth for £800,000.
Olejnik goes straight in at Championship level.....will we even get £500,000 ?
And that makes £175,000 for Eunan look pretty undervalued. Bit of a coincidence Crawley are offering just what Eunan's "release" figure is. Obviously trying it on and assuming Eunan will want to join them for higher wages and so Torquay will just cave in and wave goodbye and good luck. The release clause only allows him to talk - it doesn't mean we have to sell him for that figure surely. I'm sure Crawley have just come in with their lowest offer and would go higher. They were said to have been keen Billy Kee for 200-300,000 as soon as they got the Tubbs money, so surely Eunan should go for more. Let's hope we're not relying on a totally risky hope of a sell-on.
Bristol Rovers recently rejected a bid for Carayol from a higher division, Oxford have rejected 2 Bristol Rovers' bids for Constable and there are other cases - we don't have to always say yes.

unfortunately we always do tho, and i imagine we will continue to this week and in the future, no one knows why, but i cant see an end to it!
still keeping the faith
But that's the whole point of a release clause. If Eunan agrees to their wage offer, and no other club offers more than 175k for him, then why would Crawley offer TUFCmo re than they have to?londongull63 wrote:The release clause only allows him to talk - it doesn't mean we have to sell him for that figure surely. £750,000 each. Minimum. Is the club so desperate for money it feels it has to let them go for peanuts? Or is it simply the usual lil' old Torquay small-time club mentality. Who's the boss in these transactions? Martin Ling? The Torquay United board? If the latter, will Martin Ling be so pissed off at being expected to find replacements with a budget of peanuts that we'll see him, too, moving on within a few months?ferrarilover wrote:Provided we end up with £750,000 for Eunan, Bobby and Mark then let them go and we'll start again.
Matt.
Hopefully this is all a silly season bad dream, and we'll keep our players for at least another season, winning promotion to League One and a brave new world.. Otherwise, it's 'Conference, here we come..'

Really? The difference between playoff semi final in 2011/12 and relegation 2012/13 is the goalkeeper, a central midfielder and a centreback? Are you really telling me that:

Oastler - Saah - MacDonald - Nicholson

Morris - Mansell - Bodin - Stevens
Howe
Is a team fit for relegation? I tell you what, the Conference better start shit ting itself, because 3/4 of L2 is about to get relegated.
I love Mark, as everyone on here knows, but even if he had a gold plated knob he wouldn't be worth £750,000. I do agree that we are shipping players out for what seems like too little money, but then, in the case of Eunan and Cheaty, we will definitely have the last laugh, because 5 years from now, the £175,000 they give us for him will be considerably more than the outstanding amount they own HMRC and for which their club is put into administration/receivership/liquidation (I don't know which is which).

Not saying that. What I'm saying is I'm fearful that the club may be about to sell some of its most valuable assets for peanuts, i.e. its best players for far, far less than their true value, thereby losing its ability to move forward, even possibly causing it to move backwards.. and downwards..ferrarilover wrote:Really? Whether or not Cheaty goes down the pan is irrelevant.
One positive to say on this matter is that Torquay United becomes a more attractive club to potential signings by their handling of Eunan and Bobby.

True, and also, maybe Martin just wants it done. Sell them now, tell me what my budget is, build my squad. If this drags on trying to get every last penny, and they both go in Augus, we're left picking up the unwanteds as usual.
One thing that has occurred to me is that should the sale of Bobby go ahead then could it make the departure of EOK (well to Crawley, at least) a little less likely? Today's Herald suggests that it is by no means certain that EOK would join them and that was written before the news broke that Bobby O is probably on his way for what will undoubtedly be a lot of money for a club the size of ours, be that £200k (the sort of figure I would hope we are getting) or hopefully even more.
The only "attraction" of joining Crawley for EOK is the fact that they are in League 1 and could no doubt offer him slightly better wages, but for all their money, I seriously doubt they are in a position to offer him really big wages - not on the crowds they are getting. Eunan will also know that, as things stand, there is nothing to choose between the two squads. OK, they have made a couple of new signings but nothing major and if we only lose Bobby this summer then with a decent replacement (like Pokey) If EOK stays we surely have every chance of giving it another right go at promotion - particularly if the money used from the sale of Bobby could see us add the likes of Poke, Easton and maybe even Bodin to the roster. Who knows, there might even be enough money left in the budget to renegotiate EOKs existing deal so that we match, or at least get very close to, what Crawley are offering.
