Sorry brucie - Buckle offered him terms to join Rovers so nice that at least someone chose us over them!

Not so, according to Martin Ling .....

"There are other clubs (plural!) interested but he really enjoyed his time with Torquay"

That did make me laugh, Terry.

Has anyone else noticed how the OS seem to be putting up a lot of information of late, BEFORE it's confirmed ?? There was me thinking they only put things on there when any deal was signed :)

Without fail, you can always rely on brucie to interject with the exact opposite reverse negative to the positive.

Good to see our first signing in through the door (although not official yet, despite being on the official site...).

Promising youngster who's only going to get better with age. Welcome aboard Joe :)

In fairness guys, they have said on the OS that he is on his way to signing. They haven't announced anything other than that which is the truth.

Officially, he has agreed a deal, not signed a deal. The OS have reported the facts exactly as they exist.

Welcome to JOastler, if only to annoy Brucie, well worth £500/week.

Matt.

When did that ever happen prior to Buckle leaving? They mentioned Shaun Taylor before it was confirmed, he was an employee of Exeter when they made that news public, they mentioned Bodin as a target, this is all a different strategy from before, which is the point I was making that you seemed to miss.

I'll have a guess and say he could do a reasonable job as a defensive right fullback. I don't remember the particular home game, but he dropped in to right fullback after a reshuffle and looked comfortable and assured.

Maybe the club want people to know things are happening behind the scenes, but verbal agreements mean nothing in football. Jo Kuffour, Andy Marriott and Bayo all verbally agreed to stay with us. Didn't Colin Lee verbally agree to Manage us before his ego got involved? We could probably get a full team of players who verbally agreed to join us and then went elsewhere.

That said, I hope the deal is completed - I rate Oastler as one for the future. Plenty of work for him to do yet, but I think his versatility will be a great asset to our squad this season. Be good for him to work with Taylor and Russell should he sign.

Joe, for sure, will mature with guidance/coaching.

Applied to ability and coaching are three stages : primitive, mechanical, spontaneous.

Primitive (unskilled)
Mechanical (knee jerk motion to new moves)
Spontaneous (skilled flowing motion to learned and constantly practised moves)

I don't guide or coach. I just go on and on and . . . . . .

I have not got anything against Oastler - I have never seen him do anything though. Apparently he came on in the play off final but not sure where he was hiding on the field.
So we have nearly signed Oastler, we have nearly signed Stevens, we have signed Exeters youth team coach as assistant manager and we are signing Russell who accoring to Ling "knows the score" and it all depends whether the "budget can stretch to it"
Ling apparently wants two players who can play at right back - by my calculations he has Mansell,Robertson and Oastler (maybe) so that will be three.
The players that we have already got here will apparently be getting more of a go next year so we should see the likes of Rowe-Turner,Macklin,Halpin (and even the young boy Ellis) in the first team regularly.
Meanwhile Ling seems to think he is playing championship manager and you do seem to wonder whether the blokes got any plan whatsoever. Even more worryingly, you seem to wonder if he ever expected to get the job in the first place.
What would be nice would be the signing of a couple (even one perhaps) players who can actually hold down a regular first team place and improve on what we have got already - and that should not be to taxing surely.
