Personally it would be a great idea, if we were actually located near any big teams. As we aren't, and I don't imagine Brizzle City fans will come down, it won't do anything to the gate.

Fantastic idea. Pleased the club is trying to boost attendances with these types of promotions. Just a shame that it seems as if it would be hard to get fans of those clubs to be aware of the offer. I mean, they're not going to just randomly rock up on our website.

Howwever, if the message does get out it is only good for the club.

thers always those idiots who go on the dimwits bus to old trafford from devon, there may be one or two who are aware that there are actually some football clubs nearer to home than manchester!

would be better just giving everyone a fiver off and seeing if it made any difference at all to the gate, altho i think we all know the answer to that!!

its probably against the law, but we should distribute those fixture poster but lie and say we're playing ac milan, barcelona, chelsea etc each fortnight!

Perhaps some of the supporters of our local championship / big club would like to spend some time at a real club........ Oops sorry how could I forget Plymouth are in L2 !!

A nice idea but unlikely to increase the attendance by a lot. Good to see the club trying alternatives though.

Another way to save money: Accrington are unlikely to bring a large away following so we should only open the bench, like for Aldershot, saving money on stewarding the away terrace, extra income from bench tickets. Also stops them getting support from behind the goal.

Like Nick says, there are no Premiership clubs nearer than Southampton and the nearest Championship club is Bristol City so the offer is pretty much pointless; however, like DevonYellow says, the club should be applauded for at least facilitating this should anyone wish to take advantage. It's not the clubs fault it is a victim of geography.

The decision to herd the Accrington fan into the bench, charge him more and shut the away end is a sensible and good decision. How many times have we been victims of this 'chuck 'em in a block of seats in the main stand and charge 'em £20' syndrome? Excellent idea from the club.

I suppose you're right on that one Andy, but I always imagine that the Accrington fans are the poor relations compared to supporters of big clubs in the Lancashire area such as Man Utd & Man City who can afford to pay much more to watch their football.

As you say the Accrington supporters will have no option other than to pay £20 to watch the match. If some of their rich mates get a lift down to the match then those affluent City and Utd season ticket holders will have the choice of watching the game for £12 from the Popside or Bristows bench for £15. This 'steal from the poor give to the rich' scheme won't help the loyal Accrington or Torquay fan, but it will subsidise the prawn sandwich brigade on their one and only visit to Plainmoor.

The thing is though Joe, i went to Accrington a few seasons ago and whether their ground is fit for purpose is debatable. I can appreciate it was a former non-league ground and money is tight but unlike ourselves who also have small crowds and little money they aren't prepared to do anything about it and will still think nothing of charging us £15 or £16 to get in. So in the that respect, f*ck 'em, stick 'em in the bench and charge them £20 or whatever it is. They'll still have a great view ( which we don't at Accy) great facilities which means if you suffer from IBS or anything like that you can go to a fully functioning toilet which is adequately lit, has toilet paper AND a lock on the door ( which we don't at Accy ), and a great day out whatever the result ( which is impossible at Accy even if we won 20-0 ). So i say on this occasion the ends justify the means and it's a good decision.

Don't confuse rich clubs with rich fans, Joe. Man City's cheapest adult season ticket this season £275. I do see what you're saying, but there are a lot of excellent value season tickets in the Premier League (even if you do have to watch boring, boring City every week).
