Chris McPhee
I'm fed up with everyone condemning him before he has kicked a ball again for us.
HOW STUPID ARE YOU?
This bloke won the player of the season from the Ebbsfleet fans in 2008
He scored 7 goals for Weymouth in 30 games despite not being paid for most of it and them being in freefall down the league
He then scored 32 goals in 101 appearances for Kidderminster, was top goal scorer last season and turned down moves to Hereford and Crawley (who have their pick of players).
The only reasons he has come back to us is cos he lives down here and wants to prove a point...so let him for god's sake!
I know most followers of football have never played and don't have a scooby when they watch the game (especially when this lad has played against us) but maybe some cool facts will help you.
Surely he is now a United player and therefore as long as he tries his heart out we should get behind him rather than make the fella feel like a pariah

Have you actually bothered to read any of the posts?
The vast majority say he was crap before but has clearly improved beyond recognition and are happy to give him the benefit of the doubt. A few have slated him but that's what a forum is about, different opinions.

The majority are at least giving him the benefit of the doubt to prove or disprove himself. I'm not sure that slating a newly signed player as a "carthorse" is a "different opinion" or a "prejudiced opinion" (taking prejudice to mean unevidenced, biased, unfair etc.), but I would go for the latter. I don't know whether forums are there for expressing opinions or prejudice, but there are a couple of posters on here who are mainly in the latter category. My only concern in this is the impact that prejudiced opinions may have on players who have only just signed for the Gulls, should they drop into this forum. We'll see as the season progresses.Jerry wrote:Have you actually bothered to read any of the posts?

The lad is grown up enough and has had enough successful seasons now not to put any store into an ill conceived brucie opinion. He scored 17 last season and the only other two times I have seen him play against us since he was here, he was far and away the best player on the pitch both in an attacking full back position and an attacking midfield position. (Ebbsfleet away and FA Trophy with Ebbsfleet). Crawley wanted him, ffs. No, brucie knows best. He was rubbish 7 years ago and he didn't show at Tivvie in pre-season. It's all over. I'm not "excited" by this signing, but McPhee has improved and only an idiot would suggest otherwise. And that's without mentioning how useful he is to a squad with his experience in a number of positions.

What impresses me most about Mcphee is his apparent strength of character. As Rob alludes to, everytime we've faced him since he left, he's been the best player on the pitch - usually in the face of some pretty nasty abuse by our supporters. He's never once allowed outside influences to affect the level of his performance, and he's never once responded to it.

On his first return to Plainmoor he was getting heaps of abuse, Sillsy (I think) clearly elbowed him full in the face right in front of a baying Pop. Many players would have made a meal of it but he just shook his head and got on with the game. Top bloke and by all accounts a decent player now as well.Fonda wrote:What impresses me most about Mcphee is his apparent strength of character. I really hope he gets used in a position he wants to play in. He won't get used as an attacking midfielder because O'Kane can do that better, hopefully he'll be put in contention for the forward line as I really wouldn't want to risk him being poor again on the wing.

There are negative fans of every club, it's your own ability to disregard terrible opinions. Brucie's opinions I disregard instantly, nothing he says is constructive, he never suggests any way of making something better and I think if I lived my life like him, I probably would've hung myself a long time ago.highweekgull wrote:Thanks guys you've re-instated my faith in most TUFC fans!
Still, that's his way and I'm sure he's happy under the black cloud constantly looming above his head.
Just ignore the drivel is the simple way to look at it!
