Formation

Post by Midlandgull »

We seem to keep playing 4-4-2 this season and the table doesn't lie, it's clearly not working. Don't get me wrong, I like Jarvis and Goodwin, but feel we are sacrificing a better setup just to get them two in the starting eleven.

I want to see us go back to 4-3-3 / 4-5-1 and really tighten up the central midfield as much as we can as we don't really seem to have either the quality, height or fitness to go with two in the middle. We need to give our central defence more protection too.

I'd also like to see one of the out-and-out wingers (Wearne / Da Silva) on the bench to give us an impact sub option.

My team v Halifax:

Halstead

Donnellen Moxey Omar Wyatt

Wearne Hall Lapslie Aguiar Evans

Jarvis

Bench:
Lovett
Marshall
Da Silva
Hanson
Goodwin

For much of the season we were playing 5-3-2 and that wasn't working either (see "Boycott 5-3-2" thread) and fans were calling for a 4-4-2 formation and got it for the Aldershot match which we of course won 6-1.
I think it all comes down to the quality of the squad which appalling.

For me, I wouldn't play Jarvis on his own upfront, not to sure what the answer is, but Halifax are a big team, with some big lads, Jarvis on his own could struggle, For me I'd somehow get Wearne, Evans and De Dilva/Goodwin in the starting XI because I feel it needs width and pace.

Agree with this, to beat big defenders we need to get the ball down and be direct with our dribbling

I think a 4-3-3 would suit this side, but a lot of the time it’s down to the individual quality of the players and tactics given. I’d like to see Evans more advanced personally.
