Should there be any Gulls' supporter who's been out of media communication since last summer, this article explains what's been happening in TQ1 and what's going to happen. Mind you there's plenty more to tell.

There is plenty more to tell. Although the article refers to a "questionable take over by Gaming International" it doesn't mention the trail of destruction that organisation has left behind it. Almost worthy of the Herald Express itself.

Nothing questionable about the takeover, the previous board f***ed up and gi stepped in saving the club from administration. The trail of destruction started long before gi got their property developing mits on the club.

Absolutely; I'll say it again and again until all those with an attention problem wake up and smell the coffee.......

Well meaning but totally un-businesslike people fecked this club up; benefactor/over-anxious supporters throwing their pension pots in and a cynical/manipulative and self serving former player paved the way and set the club up as a sacrificial lamb for a property speculator/ developer. We've reaped what we've sown as gullible fans have sat back and applauded their efforts. As I posted on another thread:

When Torquay United had a chance to plant that seed (of community ownership and hence spreading the burden) they could only look at the short term of how they were going to pay the next month's bills and decided to eschew it in favour of the influence of Pete Masters and his 'development ethos'. Small town football clubs and property developers rarely make the best of bedfellows as Dave Phillips alluded to at the fans' forum...... and then promptly jumped into bed with one.

Now Dave is an afable chap and will present a perfectly understandable case for doing just that at the time and I far more understand that than the crazy short sightedness he and his board showed when he allowed the arrogant and quite frankly stupid antithesis Masters and Merv Balson had towards community inclusion to hold sway. But Dave is a sincere and well meaning supporter who did his best. He merely chaired the rump of a board that were left holding the near insolvent and liability ridden ticking time bomb dressed up as 'debt free' that Thea Bristow's game of pass the parcel had left them holding.....

The root of the problem was the abdication of all sensible responsibility she displayed in deciding to cut the funding on which the club had become wholly reliant.....the duty to secure competent and responsible ownership was never completed. Bristow and the oily Kelvin Thomas really let the club down to the point of leaving it as a pseudo 'Home Alone' case ~ and to think she was silly enough to pay Thomas for doing so!

Maybe it's the same at Tics; an exclusive cabal of elderly enthusiasts without either the vision or energy to carry things forward getting left behind as the bus they missed disappears off round the bend and they are left in that proverbial but comfortable little bus shelter waiting for the next bus that never comes. I have this vision of messrs Phillips, Balson, Kerslake and the attendant and dutiful spouses sitting in that bus shelter like young children wondering how they're going to get home and that sinister kerb crawler 'uncle' Pete comes along in his car; gets out and sits down beside them and begins to exert his dodgy influence.

Please wake up and smell the coffee!

You're wasting your energy Merse. Some fans are thick as dogshit. The light bulb "Ah yeah! I understand now!" moment when they rock up to Plainmoor in a few years time and see blocks of apartments instead of a football ground will come years too late.

This is exactly what the future of the football club is up against. It hasn't got a prayer.

I'm 100% sure if I was chatting to Merse in the pub then we wouldn't get along but his dog with a bone approach to the club he loves in the face of some clueless, ignorant, inert fans is something I admire.

He does it for himself and the love of his club and that overrides everything else that people can throw at him. Meanwhile they just carry on as normal and let parasites like Osborne and Owers ( yes Owers) rip the heart and soul out of the football club in front of their very eyes.

My comment was more on the article and why it started with this season when if you truly want to plot the story of the demise look at the people who creamed off a well meaning benefactor. My point was it's not gi's trail of destruction the club was destroyed long before they raised their ugly heads.
Btw merse is a great guy, I remember running in the London marathon football challenge and he helped me raise money through capital gulls for rowcroft. The guy bleeds blue and yellow.
