Torquay Fan Stats - Updates

Post by Gulliball »

http://www.torquayfanstats.com was launched in May this year, with the intention of being an interesting resource for Torquay fans about all manner of content.

With no football played the summer has been a quieter time for updates, but this has given me a chance to add some more content and start work on a few bigger projects. Now that the season has started, a lot of pages will be updated regularly, and as a new site I’ll try to give an overview of which pages will be changing as the season progresses. It’s my intention to update as quickly as possible after a match and I’ll make a note of the date each page was last updated.

Away Followings and Visiting Supports at Plainmoor

Image

Each has its own page, listed club by club. Handy if you want to know what we've taken to clubs in previous seasons and what they've brought to us. Figures go back to 2009/10 when clubs started announcing away figures, and estimates are used for unpublished or unsegregated fixtures.
Updated after each game.

Seasonal Attendances

Image

Home and away breakdowns for each game, with averages. Past seasons are also available on the site.
Updated after each game.

Seasonal Stats

Image

A running total of appearances, goals, assists, yellow and red cards. Might be handy if you want to check who is approaching a ban.
Updated after each game.

Current Squad

Image

The current members of our squad, with their TUFC related figures.
Updated after each game with appearances and goals, so if you want to check an up to date total then it will be here. Also updated as players arrive/leave.

Player of the Year

Image

Based on the Man of the Match data collected on here, this page will give a running total for the Player of the Year award, as well as individual Man of the Match and Player of the Month winners. Previous years are also on the site to view, as well as an overview page.
Nathan Blissett is currently leading after finishing second in each of the first two games.
Updated after each game.

All Time Record

Image

This was one of the summer projects, going through all 3696 league games (now 3698) played since we were elected to nationwide competition in 1927. It’s our all-time cumulative record, and will be updated after each game.
Adding cup fixtures is on my to-do list, so that might happen at some point.

Scorelines

Image

The other part of this project was counting each individual scoreline from these games. This page will also be updated after each game.
At the bottom of the page is a record of which scorelines are favourable or unfavourable for us. Some of these battles are close and may change as the season progresses, such as 3-2 (won 80, lost 79), 4-2 ( lost 36, won 35) and 5-4 (the only scoreline to be level, having one and lost by this scoreline once).

Managers

Image

Also a historical page, going right back to Crad Evans in 1921, Nicho’s record of course changes every game, in terms of games managed, wins and win %. For example, his win % rose to 36.59% after Tuesday, overtaking Chris Hargreaves (36%). But failure to win on Saturday and he’ll drop below again.

All sections are updated after every game.

Twitter

Image

There’s usually 1-2 tweets on average per day, posting a mixture of historical ‘On This Day’ events and other content. Plus any relevant or interesting match day stats and topical content as news breaks.

@torquayfanstats is the account to follow, and re-tweeting of anything you find interesting would be greatly appreciated to help get the account off the ground.

Other Content

As well as the above, there are pages with content that won’t be updated on a regular basis (usually because the content doesn’t change). There are pages for attendances, appearances and goals for past seasons, club records, pre-season campaigns and trialists, landmarks, hat-trick scorers, plus a few others. So if you want to see who has ever scored a hat-trick (84 in total, last one in 2009), who we played in pre-season in 2010/11 or who played/scored for us in 1997/98 then there are pages to check all this.

Future Projects

As a new site, what appears now is just a collection of thoughts that have come to me since May and I have had time to research/copy/write/publish.

The idea is to have a website that’s a useful resource for TUFC fans, so any new ideas for content, updates or anything else would be very much appreciated. If at any time you’re looking for something TUFC related and can’t find it, let me know and I’ll try my best to incorporate it – either on here, via PM or [email protected]

Corrections, feedback or comments are also welcomed, as well as anyone wanting to get involved.

Spreading the word to other fans via Facebook, Twitter or word of mouth would be brilliant.

Thanks for your time, and I hope you enjoy the site/twitter.

Well done Gullible.
Your just like me,. a fan of stats. I always manage to dig up something so will pass them on to you as we go. I love the attendance stats. i have followed them for many clubs for a long time. sadly the BBC seemed to get fed up with them and now don't print any at all. which is a shame for anoraks like us. keep it up. well worth doing
Another stat worth following.. our break even attendance. I did ask the Chairman what it was after last seasons 1850 was reported as being the break even. his reply was a surprise. and you may want to know.
We all know or think that the playing budget was slashed. but according to our Chairman it has gone up. read into that what you will but he says the break even point is now 2200. so we are slightly ahead but although i can agree that some costs would have inevitably gone up. I cant imagine it has by this amount. so can anyone shed any light on what sort of budget was set for the various departments of the club.
Always Look on the bright side of life

Mesmerising. I'm confused looking at it. True fan. One thing for sure, nicho can take pride in his 36% win rate considering his limitations and experience, his future win rate will make him one of the most successful managers at Torquay

One stat I'd love to see (which I wouldn't expect to be done as part of this, which is outstanding work btw) is do we concede more game-changing, last minute goals than the norm. It certainly feels like it!

My mate and I were saying much the same thing after Saturday.

I do remember that run of about 6 consecutive games where we conceded in the last few minutes, just before Martin Ling was ill.

It would certainly be interesting. The problem though is setting what is 'normal', without that I don't know where you begin.

Out of interest, does anyone know how yellow cards are recorded when a player gets two and then a red, as Gerring did tonight? Am I correct in thinking that one yellow and one red will be added? So he'd get a one game ban for the red but then as he was on one yellow before this evening, his cumulative yellow count to earn a ban would be two, he wouldn't have both added and be on three?
