There is no chance whatsoever of that happening. If we are lucky we'll reach 30 points. I keep searching for something to be optimistic about regarding the team that I love, but I can think of nothing at all now. We have been killed off by crap managerial appointments over several seasons, culminating in one of the worst appointments we could have made, Nicholson has been a complete disaster. We have also been killed off by poor leadership, the rot starting under the previous board.

46-54 points, Welling stayed up on 45 points, this was on goal average last season, 51 points kept Hereford up on goal average 2013/14, 54 points 2012/13, 2011/12 46 points, 2010/11 46 points.
Jack's month-by-month points for survival forecast looked fair and do-able in theory, but the team has failed at the first hurdle. January target - 7 points. Points achieved - 0. Okay, two games were postponed - Braintree (h) & Welling (a) - but even if we had won both of those games, we would have still been short of the target. I listened to the last 20 minutes or so of the Tranmere match. Dave Thomas said Harrad's goal was our only effort on target during the whole match.
We are told Nicho is looking at bringing in 'free agents' to save us. You have to ask - why are they 'free agents' at this stage of the season? Sorry to say that the Gateshead home defeat was the final nail in the coffin. The rest of the season will be the last rites. Anyone who thinks we will be in the National League next season is seriously deluded. If we are to see National League football at Plainmoor next season, it is more likely to be with Truro City than the wreckage our club has become.

That sadly is the reality. The club lurches from crisis to crisis and although the club has a history of 'great escapes', on the previous occasions there was genuine reason to think that we could actually win a game. Now a win is as rare as rocking horse shit and the rocking horse would see off most of our team for pace!nickbrod wrote:The only end of season points target is whether it's us or Kidderminster who finish bottom.
What on earth is the point in idiotic posts telling people to "stay positive". Anyone who thinks we have any chance of avoiding relegation is a blind fool or is lacking in brain matter.
Even in the unlikely event of us showing improved form we have barely got enough players to fill the subs bench so injuries would put paid to any chance we had in any case.
It took me one game (Cheltenham at home) to know that we would be relegated. How many months ago was that? - if I could see it then why couldn't those in charge?
I never thought I would see a more disastrous reign then when Chris Roberts was in charge but this band of fools actually beat that. It is truly unbelievable.

You're right. Many won't like it but the truth hurts. This whole bloody season hurts.brucie wrote:What on earth is the point in idiotic posts telling people to "stay positive". Anyone who thinks we have any chance of avoiding relegation is a blind fool or is lacking in brain matter.

They told us to be patient when Nicho was appointed and we slipped further down the table. They told us to wait for his fitness methods and ideas to have an impact, they didn't. We were told to wait for January and he'd bring in his own players, if anything the squad is weaker. We've waited for too long and the gap to safety is in miracle land.

Reading through this thread it seems a lot of 'supporters' believe the manager and the team don't have a chance in hell of avoiding relegation and so they and we should simply give up and accept the club's inevitable fate. With that attitude David would never have defeated Goliath. And I've no doubt that if Winston Churchill had thought this 75 years ago Hitler's Nazis would have won that war!
Looking at the players Kevin Nicholson has brought in over the past month, surely nobody will deny that we have a better squad now than we did before Christmas. The only question now is: will they gel quickly enough to enable us to win those vital remaining games?
February is the most important month of the season for us to get the wins we need. Of the six teams immediately above us, we play five this month: Chester, Halifax, Boreham Wood, Welling, and Altrincham. The other team, Guiseley, we play on the last day of the season. You could say we are playing six cup-ties this month (including Macclesfield). With the right spirit in the team and among the supporters, it could be an exciting end to the season..

With the addition of the new signings this week we have a better all round squad of outfield players and a decent number to meet the pressure of playing twice a week.
The best back four is Berry, McDonald, Smith, Butler and we now have r/b cover in Racchi and Rees, C/b cover in Geoghagon and Gerring and l/b cover in Nico.
The three "R's" , Racchi, Rees and Richards can all play the defensive midfield role with Verma and Chaney being the more creative ones. Ajala and Allen are both wide players as is Butler if needed. Up front there is Blissett, Harrad and Wright.
By my reckoning that is 17 players to fill 14 outfield positions in a match day squad of 16. We also have Rylah, Hancox and Finch who need to force their way into the first team squad if that are to stay on for next season. It is also possible that Luke Young could get back before the season ends as well.
The squad looks good on paper so well done Nico and the Board for putting it together and giving us a fighting chance to escape the bottom four. This time last week I was concerned about the lack of numbers and balance of the squad but on paper at least the gaps seem to be filled.

Hmmm ....... I see where you're coming from and I sort of half agree with you. The trouble is we all get excited when new players arrive but then quickly realise that they are no better than players who have left - worse in some cases. The experience of Shaun Harrad will be a bonus I think but the jury's out on Racchi, Rees and Blissett. Recent playing careers of any of these three doesn't inspire confidence. On the other hand, Verma couldn't get into Kidderminster's side and he has looked a good player. The problem of course is that we aint got no money so we can only bring in hopefuls trying to kick-start their careers and hope it works. Matches in February will probably decide where we end up next season. Boreham Wood, Halifax, Welling, Chester and Altrincham - unfortunately, they will also be scrapping for points. At best, it's a few straws to clutch at.Jack wrote:With the addition of the new signings this week we have a better all round squad of outfield players and a decent number to meet the pressure of playing twice a week.

I think we're a striker short and by the way, you forgot the young lad who is on loan at St Austell (?). I've forgotten his name as well but I think he would come further up the pecking order than Shaun Finch !!

Liam Prynn? If he's still on our books he should be recalled: we will need all hands to the pumps for the rest of the season, especially if this wet weather continues..

At the start of the year I was hoping for 44 points from 41 games which is where we are at this moment in time. The fixtures have gone a bit out of sync so I had expected to have played Altrincham at home with the Gateshead game still to play after 41 games.Jack wrote:Well done to Kevin and the team for another combative performance today at Cheltenham.
It looks like 48 points might be enough to stay up. At the moment 6 teams including us are averaging a point or less per game so 46 games = 46 points or less if 4 of the 6 don't improve during the remainder of the season!
However nothing in football is certain so we must aim for a minimum 52-54 points.
We have 20 games left, 11 at home and 9 away, and at the moment we have 5 games each month but the weather and any further progress in the FA Trophy could scupper that.
In January we have three nome, Braintree, Welling and Gateshead with two away at FGR and Tranmere. I reckon that we need 7 points from the three home games and wouldn't anticipate anything from the away games.
February is the critical month, again we have three home, Chester, Halifax and Altincham and away games at Macc and Boreham Wood. The target has to be at least 10 points from these games.
In March we again have three home games Kiddy, Southport and Eastleigh with away games at Aldershot and Dover. The Easter games are against Dover and Eastleigh. Again I reckon we need 7 points.
If we get the 7 + 10 + 7 target we would have 44 points from 41 at the end of March and hopefully be out of the bottom 4 so that our destiny is in our own hands.
In April we have two home games v Tranmere and Barrowwith away games at Gateshead, Bromley and Guisley. To get to 52 points we would need a further 8 points but it could be less depending on how our rivals fare.
I think it is "doable" subject to team strengthening in January and less injuries and suspensions then we have had up to now. After FGR on Friday we will have completed our games against the top 3 so hopefully we can see off some of the lesser sides in the league or am I being too optomistic?
It looks like 50 points might be enough especially with Welling still to play 4 games against relegation threatened sides and Guiseley to play Boreham Wood. As Kevin Nicholson has said we have to remain focused and fight for every point but at least now our destiny is in our own hands rather than having to rely on others to slip up.

If we are going to stay up then why don't we do it "the Torquay way" & draw the next 5 games.......
