I havn't got a problem with your commentary at all and I don't think that you should come on here apologising for anything. If you thought the free kick went through Rice's hands and you thought he should have done better at the time then fair enough thats your opinion so nothing wrong with saying that at all.
You did refer to Rice being hesitant off his line during the game and the defenders not having confidence in him. Again if thats what you thought then fair enough thats your opinion.
I actually assumed that Rice probably had a poor game because of what you were saying.
Having seen the highlights I don't actually think that Rice was responsible for the goals this time but I totally agree that Rice has cost us ten points.
To me that is a perfectly fair comment. Personally I don't actually like listening to the co commentator - was it Chris Fleet. I prefer the Mulhearn bloke or Dave Thomas.

Btw, for all that don't "like" Steve or any of the others, this is what you could get.

Seemingly so, nice to have another celebrity fan. He just needs to admit to it more!

I'm with you when you say Rice hasn't cost us 10 points this season (although even you have to admit he's cost us a few) but then you go on to include Downes with two other players as (quote) 'costing us our league status and more points this year'. Yes - it is all just opinion but really ...... are you being serious ?? Week after week Downes is included amongst the five best match players on this forum even though he's playing in front of a goalkeeper whose coaching manual must include no. 1 rule - 'goalkeepers must never come off their line'.

Brucie - just for information as you weren't at the FG match. Leading up to the free kick (or it may have been the third goal - I'm not sure now), Rice chose to punch the ball out from a cross when under little pressure. Both me and my mate and others stood around us thought he should have caught the ball as I think most keepers, even at Conference level, would have done. To be fair, his confidence seems to be very low at present - a month ago he would have probably caught the cross. But as Forever has posted, nothing can be gained by analysing every move Rice makes, or indeed any other player.

Radio Devon enhances my match day experience at Plainmoor. I listen to most of the commentary whilst I am watching behind the goal in the Family Stand. When the play is down the other end the commentary helps me know better what's happening and it's interesting for me to hear an alternative view of the game, as well as updates on scores elsewhere.

I assume Radio 5 live commentators have the privilege of seeing replays on T.V. monitors soon after the event. But at Plainmoor that is basically impossible. I see Radio Devon commentators as being like another supporter in another part of the ground giving their view on the match. You have a better view than me on action at the Away end but it is often the case I see the action better at the Family Stand. For example, sometimes the Radio Devon commentator have to make a bit of a educated guess what's happened at the Family Stand end such as was it a goal kick or a corner, did the ball go out of play etc? Without T.V. monitors it is pretty damn impossible to get everything accurate.

I have no personal preference who commentates on Radio Devon - I enjoy them all and they have good passion for the club. I don't expect perfection and I enjoy your and the summarisers perspective of the game. It is much appreciated.

teeboo100 wrote:hello people just had the chance to read the forum over the last few days and seen my name on a few posts as to the way I called the free kick on sat and other comments regarding my efforts with the radio on sat. Firstly myself and chris fleet had a split second to call the free kick from my angle it did appear to go straight through his hands and my 1st reaction was to say I think he should have done better with that. A post on here from forever gull sais with all due respect has he ever taking a fa coaching badge or player pro football so his opinion is in laymens terms no better than anyone else.. Fair point forever apart from playing in goal myself and I have got an fa coaching badge however I do not get the benefit of action replays and I did not spend the rest of the game hammering martin rice in fact in my final report on the game which is still on radio devon I changed it to a brilliant free kick .. I did not mention at anytime rice made a gaff..

When I did the barnet game I did make reference to the fact that I think out of our 2 goalies rice is clearly the better option however the goal keeper situation in my opinion has cost us 10 points and if not addressed soon will stop us gaining a play off position that is just a fans eye view not a commentators. Perhaps people should remember that weather I am on the radio or not I will be at the game as I go to every one so I think I am entitled to my view as is the next man..

People like bay gull who just come on to the forum to slag me off before I even start commentating well perhaps try this don't tune in fella ime sure plenty of people could pull apart your comedy shows mr parsons in fact why don't the members of the forum buy tickets to one of your shows and heckle you for the duration see how you like it.. If not do me a favour and cut out the comments unless of course you could give me some tips on how to improve and perhaps I could give you some tips on comedy by handing you some dvds on genuine funny people just to see where you go wrong..

Sorry brucie about saying coughed up position 1050 times on sat ile try something else like here we go again 1050 times will that do look people all in all ime doing my best ok if its not good enough then ring radio devon and tell them or post some tips and I will do my best to correct myself as ive been told about my apparent hi tone at the end of sentences however that the way I talk so unless I find a way to change the habit of a lifetime ime pretty screwed there..

Gloucester gull I have read chunky gulls comments re barnet I really think he was having a laugh there thank you for your support. chunky gull if I am right in thinking who he is is a very decent fella that I know and is very unlikely to be having a pop at me.. I will be honest my com on Tuesday at barnet I though was very good on sat I will admit it wasn't the best calling our 3rd goal to berry before quickly changing it .. Tomorrow you have brent pilnick and ross reid brent being a pro radio devon com rather than me a terrace fan I will then take back the duties for Tuesdays game at Macclesfield so bay gull you don't have to even turn the radio on ime giving you advanced warning ok.. Enjoy the game tomorrow everyone as I will from the warmth of bristows bench unlike my old mate bay gull who no doubt will be enjoying it away from plainmoor........ P.s chris fleet was superb last sat as is paul mulhern they may not ever have played pro footy but these 2 totally know there stuff top lads the pair of them
Steve, I think you do an excellent job on the radio, so ignore the knockers - I would rather listen to a Torquay fan's honest assessment, than one of the grey commentators we sometimes get. To be fair, though, to Radio Devon - as they do get much maligned - I think their coverage is generally pretty decent, whoever is commentating and co-commentating.

Managed to catch the last 15 minutes of commentary online and have to ask .... "Do the folk at BBC Radio Devon read this forum?"

It would seem that they might .. as there were two great commentators on board yesterday .. one excellent guy being Ross Read I think was the name.
That guy knew his onions and both of them kept a level head & steady voices as the game hit its peak at the end.

I dread to think how the other crowd would have been screaming down the microphones .. with led lights at red level 10 or more I guess!

Morning Ross (I mean Bay gull) - if you are not Ross you are insane. Ross Read was absolutely appalling - blithering on about nothing apart from the Newton Abbot rugby score. Absolutely terrible - bring back Steve Breed and Paul Mulhearn.
At least they know something about our team.

BayGull wrote: Ah, so I am assuming that pen-name belongs to our 'world' famous radio commentator Mr Steven Breed!

People heckle all the time - that is part and parcel of being in front of the public. If you don't like it, then let someone else into the commentary box! (no, that is not me volunteering as I would probably swear too much, try Frankie!) You cannot expect 100% of the people to love you, whoever you are and whoever you support!

I can certainly give you a tip Mr Breed - before screeching down the microphone like a demented cat with its tail shut in a car door every time TUFC get near the penalty area - take a deep breath and then breathe out normally!
One of these 'close shaves' you will have a heart attack on air, 'just like that' as the late great Tommy Cooper will vouch.

I would, however, be interested to hear who you regard as being genuinely funny - I cannot think of any children's entertainers of the top of my head.

by-the-by = Don't forget to watch Mock The Week tonight
well, I did.

and it was sh1t like it was last week.

and the week before.

thanks for the kind messages chaps and as a general view I will try and temper down the over exuberance down the mike for future... Bay gull will comment regardless my original point mr parsons was if you feel this way just turn off go out and check the score later why stop before you go out and write on here.. But there ya go he makes a good point you cant be liked by all as I am sure ross reid isn't liked by all nor paul or chris.. SO tomorrow night a change of tact for the macc game I am going to be quieter... Thanks though in all seriousness I am a distance not the finished article but I doubt any terrace fan/ com is enjoy the com if you can tomorrow....
