Part Time Club?

Post by BayGull »

Assuming TUFC stay in this league for next season - or at worse get relegated into the Conference South - how long can the Club finances afford to cough out full time wages for a squad of players?

If finances are not healthy now, surely part time players on part time wages has to be a serious consideration for the future?

Discuss! :|

Nothing to discuss really as it is the direction we are heading.

It will start off with one player with the club fixing him up with a proper job. That will be hailed a success and 2 or 3 more will be signed part-time. 5 years from now it will be seen as the norm, giving the opportunity for local players in employment and playing for the likes of Buckland Athletic, Tiverton Town, Bideford, to step up and play for us as part-time professionals.

Hopefully it will still be a 'step up' in 5 years time! ;-)

Reading that Stefano - I can add that Lee Mansell had a 2nd 'job' whilst at Plainmoor - he was/still is an agent for Herbalife!

Not as such Dave have just caught the odd 10 minutes at half time when I have been watching a Peninsula Premier game and the reserves have been playing on the next pitch. The reserve games normally start about half hour before the 1st team so there is some action to watch when the 1st team go for their cup of tea and oranges. I noticed on another thread you were thinking of going to Kingsteignton Ath v Ivybridge Reserves next week.

Both football and rugby clubs are good clubs in Ivybridge with decent facilities and floodlights, and I enjoy going to both. In the summer even though it is not my game I often wander down to watch Ivybridge Cricket Club. All 3 grounds are in different parts of the town and all 3 are in really lovely scenery.

It's not unusual to get 600 to 800 + at the rugby and although fewer at the football both are doing well on the pitch this season. The football team won 4-1 away at 2nd in the table Bodmin Town on Saturday to move 12 points clear at the top of the SWPL table, and the rugby team have just been knocked off top spot after losing at Avonmouth at the weekend.

As you said on the other thread, it is very enjoyable taking in some local sport and it does not cause the same heartache that TUFC seem to be able to inflict on their supporters! ;-)

i do indeed wonder if its not just us that will be heading in that direction. finances in football in general are heading that way. we ignore it at out peril. I can see a day when if we keep our own heads above water we may well find ourselves in the league almost by default as other eventually have to go bust.
The other thing that worries me is this new sweep through the league of players taking on this pyramid selling scheme. They will be putting a lot of hard work into it but I doubt they are making much. it wont be long before they realise that the customers are running out and they cant keep making any money at all. its not better than Kleeneze or Betterware. You put in a lot of time. a fair bit of money and the returns are poor. This must be distracting from their main job. Are they paying more attention to this that playing.?
Yes. Lee Mansell is still doing it

Yes, will definitely be at the Kings/Ivybridge match, if I can will come down to Ivybridge for the return fixture let you know nearer the time if you fancy putting the world to rights over the TUFC. :'(

Agreed, it is enjoyable watching local sport, started watching Kings last season due to a number of my U18 players including my lad signing for them, they've all been promoted to the first team their so now at the same level as Ivybridge 2nds.

Hence the reason why we need to rally round, pay to turn up at plainmoor and cheer on the lads, we can turn it around together.

Well you and I don't agree on much but at least there's commitment on this common ground.

So sad if it were to happen, not only that it would make the likes of the batesons smirk in their prophecy of a few years ago. I do believe that their are some at the club that would do anything to avoid this but equally their is a n other that has wanted this all along and will take full personal advantage.

They're all at that these days. It's a curious sideline, can't see how any of them are making any money.
