Torquay are appealing:

Quite right too. Crap refereeing should be appealed against.

Of course they are, should not have been sent off in the 1st place, although I dont expect the FA to overturn it as they are a bunch of idiots!

Ok, stand by for the flack Scott.....It will stand because he quite clearly elbowed him. Regardless of whether or not they both did it or not, you just don't do that sort of thing on a football pitch and expect to get away with it.

I didn't see it on Sat. Despite standing on the Popside. Saw the Sky coverage and thought it looked like an elbow from Goodwin. Saw it again, on Spotlight tonight, and it looked totally different. The arm, that I thought was, Goodwins was, in fact, the Newport players arm. It looked like Goodwin had turned his back and was just trying to head the ball.

We won't get away with it, we already have a black mark against us, in light of the Labadie incident. Mud sticks, I'm afraid.

Goodwin had his back to the Newport player when the incident happened.
He may have caught the guy in the head but and it's a BIG BUT it was an accident.
It was a yellow at most.
I'm glad we are appealing and if there is any justice ,we will win.

I really don't see any intent here at all. It just looks like two players going for a header. I'm not even sure there is even contact with the face, it looks to me like any contact is blocked by the Newport player's arm.

I'm with Scott on this one, looked like a red at the game and still feel the same way.

A couple have mentioned he has his back to the player but most elbows happen that way. It's very difficult trying to elbow someone whilst facing them.

All about opinions this one and because it isn't totally clear cut I reckon the FA will back the ref's decision.

No point in appealing regardless of who did what. Really hope I'm wrong but the appeals panel ,or whatever they are called, nothing other than back the official regardless of intent. The FA are idiots and in are fact bad for the game the sooner there's an alternative the better.

The footage doesn't conclusively show what happened, hardly surprising the FA have stood by their referee's original decision.

Why?

The footage that is available clearly shows some form of contact (admittedly from both players), and shows one of the players having the "sense" to go down like they had been shot....whatever you feel about whether he was faking or not, the fact is that the ref was left with little choice.

If Goodwin had gone down everybody would have been screaming for a red card - this is no different, other than the fact that it is our player.

That said, if it had been one of our "other" players, ones that maybe aren't flavour of the season with some supporters, I'm sure that there wouldn't have been as much of an outcry ;-)
