manse as right back

Post by ethantufcbaker »

Yesterday we played truley awful but I though the full backs played the best. Manse probably will go back into midfield but I thought and so did some of the others on the popside, the manse was really good in that role. I haven't seen him start in that position since buckle left.
What did you think of him? Should he stay there ?
Also I think tonge is good, but ibprefered manse there after today.

Personally i thought he did ok apart from his passibg which to often was either to the oppersition, out of play or just played a team mate in to trouble.

I would prefer to have tonge at right back and as passing is required i wouldnt have manse back in to midfield thats my opinion.

I would make downes capt.

The award of MOM to Mansell by twitter voters was only beaten by the ironic cheers for Nathan Craig's shot, in terms of noise from Torquay fans. Mansell gave the ball away a fair few times yesterday.

In a way, the audible ironic laughter that greeted Mansell's name is a sad state of affairs when one considers the loyal player he has been for us. Whilst Mansell's first season was the one under Roberts, he is synonymous with our revival and five decent seasons until last year. He and Nicholson have given the club good service and it is sad to see them both barracked.

It may be true that they are both past their best but what are they meant to do? Refuse to play, if picked? The manager picks them (well Mansell, at least) and it is sad to see Mansell's form and popularity nosedive with the form of the team. It must be hard be captain of what clearly is a disunited team, players from the Buckle/Ling era and those of Knill's who seem to come and go so quickly that there is no chance of building any team spirit or cohesive play. Hawley and Mozika seem to sum up it up. Anonymous, journeymen, ineffective, run-of-the-mill players who will follow Knill to his next job at North Ferriby United or somewhere similar. They give not one hoot about TUFC in the way the older core of players appear to.

It may be that Mansell is past his best. It may be that his form has deserted him. But if you ask the question who is more likely to give everything for TUFC out of Mansell, Mozika or Hawley, then the answer isn't too difficult.

Mansell seems off this season. Many times in the past we've seen us go behind and him trying to raise the troops and get everyone going. This year he hasn't he seems to just let his head drop with the rest of them. I have plenty of time for him he has been a loyal servant and done well for us in the past. But he has underperformed with many other players this season so far.

problem with mansell is he is in the team purely on the centiment of him being here for years. if we was to release him tomorrow could you honestly see any other league 2 side snapping him up? sadly its the harsh reality that when Harding returns he will be to blame for mansells inept positional play. but hey I suppose as long as he shouts at the others the plainmoor faithful will forgive him...

:goodpost:

I completely agree Hector. Manse may not be playing that well, but I would have eleven of him in the team ahead of Knill's journeymen.

Face it, if any player isnt good enough then they should be dropped regardless of who they are or how long they have been at any club.
I'm not saying that Mansell is good enough but simply that it is a sad end to his time here. I'm not saying he should be in the team becuase of his service. I am saying that the players that Knill has signed, either loanees, or journeymen who do not give a shit, like Hawley, Mozika et al, who care not what happens to TUFC, are no better and in fact, worse.

If we had to depend on any of those, I would go for Mansell. Now if there was a new midfielder who was better, then obviously you would play him. But whether any of the other candidates are better is debatable. Our midfield has been awful since O'Kane left.

Where has anyone said that Mansell has been good? I simply said I would rather rely on him than the likes of Mozika and Hawley. I was comparing him to the journeymen mercenaries that are here simply for their last pay day before they follow Knill into non-league.
