congratulations panic merchants! the gaffer has been forced into a press release asking for calm after hearing about the little insecure flouncers reacting to an apparent lack of action! this has achieved nothing more than a vote of no confidence for Mr. Knill, in his eyes anyway! the doubters have already shown that their ready to turn on the gaffer, that didn't take long did it? the gaffer it's under the impression that the fans don't trust him, what have you lot done, he's only been here five minutes ffs!

Well that would actually be a good move on the part of Alan Knill in my eyes as a lack of communication gives the impression that nothing is happening when I'm sure there is plenty going on.

Of course, it probably didn't help when the Herald was reporting last week that we could expect up to SIX signings by the end of this week, when in reality there has been none! I would suggest that someone got a little carried away there !

I haven't seen anyone "ready to turn on the gaffer" as you suggest, just genuine concern from genuine fans that there is a heck of a lot of work to be done over the next month to build a squad ready for League 2! I seriously doubt that AK is worried about "fans not trusting him" either ... he's been around long enough to know what it's like at this time of year!

you've known about previous signings, the fact you haven't got any names is worrying!

Not strictly true anymore, RR. By my reckoning there are only three teams who haven't signed anyone yet in L2 .... Dagenham (but expect them to be busy soon as they are on the verge of trousering close to £1million from their 20% cut from the anticipated sale of Dwight Gayle from Peterborough to Crystal Palace for a rumoured £6million!!!!), Exeter (pleading poverty) and ourselves!

However, I take heart from the fact that just a few days ago, one of the clubs who hadn't signed anyone was Bury ... but they have since signed FIVE players in TWO days and some decent ones at that! Over half the teams in our League have now signed at least FOUR players at this stage though.

Nick

Disappointing to hear that Robertson is now at Yeovil, when he should have been with us it seems. You can understand the lure of the chance of Championship football for him, but even if he does go there is he really likely to see much action? Surely at this stage of his career he would be better off going somewhere where he knows he is going to get a game(something he has done far too little of in his career to date, for various, some self inflicted, reasons) and you would also have hoped that his past association with Alan Knill might have counted for something as well, but no, as it stands it seems his first choice for resurrecting his career in this country is with Yeovil and Gary Johnson.

 No doubt that A.K. is finding it very difficult to prize decent players away from the cultural hot spots of The North ( Barnsley, Bury, Rotherham etc. etc. ) & come down here to join the great unwashed & uneducated of Castle Circus!!

It must be financial surely. I notice Burton, who's squad was already strong, added further to their summer recruitment with 3 more good signings today.

If you want players badly enough and they are happy to come, financial agreement will be made. Our inactivity must surely be because we don't have the funds to sign the players we want, so we're simply waiting, and hoping the players we want get more desperate. Just have to hope nobody else gets them in the meantime.

Pleas tell me the focus isn't infrastructure again. The one thing worse than a stupid mistake is to repeat it.

While I am not yet worried, that last bit by Fonda is a very good point. I hope the club aren't neglecting the playing budget as we did last year.

I would guess that the focus is on paying off Ling & Taylor

Out of the 4-5 teams that escaped relegation last season, only us and Dag & Red haven't signed anyone yet. Not worried though, not yet anyway. Just waiting to see who we sign before i start to panic. :~D

.... And then there was TWO!

With Exeter announcing the signing of Berqvist today, it means that it's between us and Daggers for the last team to add a new signing!

To be quite honest though, I'd be more worried if I was a Grecian. Didn't Tisdale say they only had room in the budget for one new signing this summer? If Bergvist is it, I'd be worried about the state of my side.

There are still hundreds of players available, and I'd much rather wait and pick up someone half decent.

The "Robertson training with Yeovil" thing is frustrating, but not totally bleak for us IMO. Of course, given the opportunity you'd go and chance your arm with a championship side. But Robertson has been out of the limelight for a while and I don't believe has ever delivered at championship level - there is no guarantee that they will take him on. Which could then leave him "falling back" on us, which is fine as I rate him as a player and his apparant avoidance of us could be used to barter down his demands. Lets be clear, no longer are we signing players for life - someone like Robertson needs a club like us to give him a chance, so the fact he trialled at Yeovil over us makes no difference to his motivation to play for us. Like Downes last year, he'll sign for the club that will give him a chance.

We would do well to keep an eye on the triallists Yeovil have got. None of them (Robertson, Nana Ofori-Tomasi (check spelling! Ex Northampton full back anyway) and Kiefer Moore) strike me as immediate championship quality. If Yeovil don't snap them up, I'd be quite happy to see what any of them could do for us.

We need 7 or 8 decent additions and there is a month until the season starts. It is extremely worrying but the next 2 weeks hopefully will see all these spaces filled and see Knill and Brass getting down to the nitty gritty of training / friendlies and bedding everybody in. Knill knows who he is bringing in and when. I say that because if he doesn't then we've got immense problems. I have no reason to doubt him and so i'm sure we'll be absolutely in rude health come August the 3rd and ready for the Wombles. In Knill we trust.
Strangely enough it was Pope Gregory the 9th inviting me for drinks aboard his steam yacht, the saucy sue currently wintering in montego bay with the England cricket team and the Balanese Goddess of plenty.
