Knill will replicate Bury Success (Bury Fans opinion)

Post by exiledgull »

Just had an email from a good friend of mine who is a life long support of Bury FC, I asked him what we should expect from his signings etc, and he responded with this email (Apologise for the poor spelling/Grammar).

"Well when he was here he constantly signed players who everyone thought were rubbish, and we had many a moan on our MB about them, Mike Jones (Released Youth Team player from Tranmere), Stephen Dawson ( Relegated to Conference with Mansfield), Ryan Cresswell (Sheffield United, been on loan everywhere and been shocking) and Damien 'the trator' Mozika. We sold all 4 of these at a later date but thats not the point, AK signs players to fit into his way of playing, and thats why he was so successful on a small budget.

He never did his busy early, it was always rumoured that if AK could get a meeting with a player, usually they would come to us even for less money (This takes time to do). He even did it at Scunthorpe, when he took Mike Grella there (Even though Preston were paying a bigger wage). I have no idea what he says but expect to sign a few players that other teams are talking too.

In terms of formation expect 2 different formations. When you don't have the ball expect 4-2-3-1, with two central midfielders not moving too far apart (Also expect them to be strong into the tackle, good in the air and average on the ball. However as soon as you have the ball usually it ends up with an attacking 4-2-4. The two central midfielders will push up slightly, and both wingers and full backs will be expected to go running up the pitch. Which is why away from home we were so good. I remember playing Torquay few years ago and we won 3-2 I think, just by bombing players forward. You will have some real pace out wide, and he usually likes to have a big man up front (or on the bench).

What he did when he first took over at Bury and what he has done at Torquay are very similar, I saw you signed Chapel and Labadie, and like you said mate they were excellent. He did that here but we were poor throughout so he signed numerous loan players. Expect a few of them! When he first took over he signed (Darren Randolph - Just signed for Birmingham(, Efe Sodje, Elliott Bennet (Now plays in Premiership) and Adam Rooney (Now players Championship). This shows you in terms of personnel who he can bring in.

In terms of player recruitment in League Two, Knill is by far the best I have seen. He had his faults when he was here, dont know if they are still about. I always use to say about the substitutions but I saw on the FL League show he brought on that Yeoman and he scored within 2 minutes. Maybe he has got better. He always goes back to his clubs to sign players, we signed a few from Rotherham, Scunthopre signed a few from us. So I would expect a few to come from a few clubs. Just please dont sign Mozika! I would rather have him back here!

Just dont expect to sign any big name players, and tell your fans to keep clam as he doesnt rush his dealings. By the starts of the season you will have a team of nobodies who I think will finish in the top 7. Someone told me a stat that the worst AK has ever finished a season In league two was this one with yourself, outside of that he has not finished outside the top 12."

The rest just goes on about work etc, but does seem quite positive from a Bury fans opinion, who thinks he is the best in League Two at recruitment. It has just made me a little more excited for new signings, however if what my friend says will be a slow process but hopefully a good one!.

That's an interesting read exiledgull, thanks. I know a bit about Knill from his time up here in Scunny and by the sounds of it your mate has painted an accurate picture of what we can expect. The attacking transformation in our play is one i am certainly loooking forward to and i can't wait for the new season to start now. If he signs nobodies or players we've not heard much about then that's fine, i think he knows what he's doing and i have total faith in the bloke. If we can win 3-2 up at Bury then that would be superb! Haha.
Strangely enough it was Pope Gregory the 9th inviting me for drinks aboard his steam yacht, the saucy sue currently wintering in montego bay with the England cricket team and the Balanese Goddess of plenty.

Very positive and on the face of it he did do a fantastic job a Bury. However, all we need do is ask a Scunthorpe fan and we'd get a very different story...

Althogether though I am feeling positive about next season, but we need to sort Brass/Howe/Saah/Downes out sooner rather than later.

Pffft.....Fergie or Wenger couldnt have kept the basket case that was Scunnie in the Championship. Strange they still got relegated again, despite bringing in the sainted Laws back in October with plenty of time to change things. They had a little run of 3 wins in Feb (where they were sat in 18th position), just to get their hopes up but less than a point a game from their last 14 meant they were always sliding down.

Scunny fans blaming Knill for the fact they're back down to their realistic level (unless they manage to find more players to flog for big money) really is a casebook study in the delusional mentality of football fans. Get over it, your club is where it deserves to be on performances and lack of investment since the big money sales that got you to tier 2.
Apathy Rules...............it's ok though, nobody's that fussed about it........
