Great Set Up

Post by friendlygas »

Couldn't go off your site without saying what a great set up you have there with both the ground and the Boots and Laces Club. In truth it was a great day out yesterday.Went by train and walked from the Station to the harbourside. Stopped at Wetherspoons London Inn, had Pie and Chips at the Chippie opposite (very nice) and then proceeded to walk up to the Ground. What a walk!!! Absolute Hell but finally made it and stayed covered up Shirtwise and managed to get in the Boots and Laces to watch the footie and have a couple of pints. Really great set up you have there with the Large tv and good friendly atmosphere. Wanted to search out a few from on here but felt as there were only a couple of gasheads there that would not be wise to show colours and was so knackered from the walk didn't want to get turned away but had an enjoyable chat with one Torquay supporter. The ground itself IMO is very nice, small but a real football stadium and the new stand has really made a difference. Entertaining game and then...... the bloody walk back to the station. The only consolation was it was downhill!! Have to say it was the worst walk to a ground from the station but at least it recovered the calories gained from the Pie and Chips.
Overall a great day out and will look forward to the visit next season!!!

Friendly fans are always made to feel welcome at Plainmoor and thanks for your kind words regarding the set up.

Next time you come down babbacombe downs is worth a visit, stunning views and the bucaneer is a good pub. Get a taxi there from the station and then it's a level walk to the ground.

If you don't want to walk, take a taxi from Torquay station, and again after the game (Plainmoor pubs/shops should have phone number), I estimate £5 or £6 each way?

Or a 12 bus from near the Grand Hotel (Torquay station) to the harbour(Cary Parade amusement arcade), and a 34 bus from Cary Parade to Plainmoor.

Reverse journey after the game, or a 5 min walk to St Marychurch or Babbacombe and get a 32 bus to the harbour then a 12 (Brixham bus) at the same bus stop, or continue on 32 to Walnut Road which is a 5 min walk to Torquay Station.

If you're going to/from Torre Station, again a 12 (Brixham) bus into town from the Newton Abbot direction and a 34.

Cheers lads and I truthfully am pleased you stayed up. Really have been hoping for weeks that you would be safe and felt that you would be safe whatever the result yesterday but I can appreciate how you all felt because although the odds were in your favour football is a funny old game and whilst all the results at half time were 0-0 it only needed one goal at the other games to go wrong for you. All's well that ends well.

Next time you are over at Plainmoor, Friendly, send me a PM and I will gladly pick you up at the station (In my car, I mean).
The ride back, though, will depend on the result.

Thanks for the kind words
