Labadie and Chapell

Post by nickbrod »

What to make of this?
Labadie played the whole game today for Notts County but Chapell wasn't even on the bench for Sheffield Utd.

I too looked this up. I'll give Sheff U the benefit of the doubt in so far as Chapperz has only been back there 24 hours, so may not have slotted straight in. If he doesn't feature next time round (Tuesday or Saturday, whichever) then I shall be considerably less inclined and perhaps hoping for a small scale disaster to befall them as punishment from the Almighty.

On the note of loanees, I'm delighted to see Plymouth's bloke go back. He, along with their others and those at Rovers, are a perfect demonstration as to why the loan system makes such a farce of the whole game. Prior to the loan window, Rovers couldn't string two passes together. The window opens, they flash some cash and they're in with a chance of the playoffs based on nothing except their ability to offer game time to a squad which isn't theirs. Same thing with Plymouth, couldn't buy a point for love nor money until some Championship centre-forward who has no earthly place at a dreadful L2 side rocks up and wins them a dozen points all on his own. That's not what the game is about. As usual, it simply rewards those with the most money. That's a fine sentiment in life, but a dreadful one in sport.

I think I agree with you Matt unless it's a loanee who changes our fortunes!
As things stand you have to play the system.

It is also indicative of the fact that sometimes players under contract are complacent - aka Bodin
May not be the original, but I am the best 'TauntonGull' .... See I can do signatures too, coz I am a real boy!

Bodin's got talent but he's lost his way.
I know there aren't many Wales players around but he must be seen by some to be good enough for their under-21 side.
Di Canio didn't rate him at Swindon but still wanted (and got ) £ 70000. So why haven't Ling and Knill got the best out of him?
I read that Billy thought of himself as a striker.

Tom Lawrence at Manure turned us down. It will be interesting to follow his career ....if he has one or not ! Could have come here and made a name for himself but seems to have picked the easy option and play in their academy team. What a waste...

With respect Loan players are available to all clubs and are NOT an advantage to clubs with money. Yeovil are the best example of this-they don't have a load of money but do most seasons have lots of loan players even at the start of the season. As regards our loaning of players, yes it did help to turn our season but how many clubs in League 1 or 2 could survive without loans when they have eight first team players out with long term injuries - Bevan, Kenneth, Virgo, Clarkson, Gill, Harrold, Woodards, Clucas. Money didn't help us at all because it meant we couldn't sign better players for money because of FPP rules when 70% of our wage budget was on the treatment table and we have had 5 Acute Cruciate ligament injuries this season. You have also had two loaness one of which scored 4 goals in 7 games for you so can hardly complain.
To be fair it is my opinion that NO Players should be loaned other than emergencies between June and October other than short period 1 month loans. I think ALL clubs should start off with a squad full of their own players.
Just as a matter of interest only John Jo O'Toole was a real loan as Mildenhall and McCrystal were both signed until the end of the season. Tounkara was out of contract and Hitchcock was a youth loan who had not scored a League goal.

My post has disappeared, not sure why. Come on Gashead, you were bottom and utter garbage, you signed a load of loanees and are now just outside the playoffs.
Clubs with money offer to pay half the wages of or pay a loan fee for better players. This is football, money ALWAYS talks.

We were bottom but not utter garbage (We had beaten you remember) . We did exactly what you did although ours was by choice and changed Manager. We had little choice than to bring players in because we had at that time a FULL TEAM out injured and four players we had on loan were returning to their clubs (Lund, Eaves, Walker and Branston) Under John Ward we signed Ryan Brunt, Mildenhall,McCrystal,John Jo OToole ,Tom Hitchcock and McDonald.
No doubt had you been in our position at that time you would have done similar but at that time you were out of sight of us!! it was a mixture of our new players, old players regaining their form and being played in their correct positions and a good Manager which changed our fortunes. Would McGhee have saved us with signings in the January window? I think not. To be fair to him he was not helped by the worst injury record I have ever known in 50 years of watching Rovers.
No doubt we, like you will be p-leased to see the back of this season hopefully with both clubs preserving their League status.

You were frigging dreadful by every account I have read. Your lot were creaming themselves over your performance against us and even then you threw away a 2 goal lead against 10 men and relied on, surprise surprise, a loanee to dig you out of the shit yet again.

We wouldn't have got in dozens of loanees because we haven't got the money.

The loan system, as it stands, is far too liberal. Teams may have one loanee, two if one is an emergency keeper. Plymouth, Rovers and Watford are all teams taking the piss with the loan system this year and it's plainly not in the spirit of the game.

Sorry but don't see what you mean. If I remember under Paul Buckle you RELIED on loan players to get you near the top. Stanley, Robinson, Tomlin to name three. As I said before we had 11 players out inured at one stage just before Christmas and all of those injured would have expected to be in the team if fit. We could have actually named a full team of injured players that could have expected to be in the top 10 this season. We now hope to sign for next season most of the players we have had on loan if not all of them so surely that is the correct way to use the system.
I can't see the money has anything to do with it as we are all having to work within FPP therefore this limits the money the richer teams can use. It will be interesting to see how you do in your three games as neither us or Morecombe have anything to play for but as I see it you HAVE to beat Barnet tomorrow night and I hope you do.
With a bit of luck there will be nothing on our game and we can both have a relaxed Saturday and enjoy the day.

Yeah FFP, that's definitely a sound system...

I'm sure you've had plenty of players out and it's terribly sad, but that doesn't alter the fact that you've got in on loan a whole host of players from vastly superior clubs. It makes a mockery of the division system, might as well make it a 92 club free-for-all.
We supplemented the talent we had with loanees and I disagreed with it even then.

You were bottom (deservedly, you won what, 2 games?) at Christmas, you get a load of loanees in and you start picking up points. It's not coincidence.

You're being terribly nice, and I'm sure I mean no malice to Rovers specifically (I could, just as easily, pick on Plymouth, but I went with Rovers.)

I don't think it's just money that's the problem. I think players turn us down based on other, more personal factors like the town itself and it's location. That would put a lot of people off.

Also, someone mentioned Buckle eariler. I think the way Buckle used loan players was at times borderline irresponsible. Yes, he brought in some players during his time here who were just what we needed for the situations we were in and improved the squad. But there were too many of them, and too great a reliance on players that weren't ours. What if we'd have gone up to League One when we went to OT? The majority were long term loans that had settled into the squad and become a part of the way we were playing. Half our team would have returned to their parent clubs and we'd have been facing a struggle before a ball had been kicked. Particularly if he had have left for Rovers anyway and taken the players he took with him.

I do think the loan system is important though. I'd have liked to have seen Mr Ling dip into it earlier on in the season.

Not exactly "vastly superior clubs" and if you look at our squad at Southend on Saturday.
Mildenhall - Millwall Loan Discussing terms for next season
Smith - Ours
McDonald - Port Vale Loan
McCrystal - Ours
Lee Brown - Ours
Tom Hitchcock - Youth Loan QPR-Made his league Debut for us.
Norburn - Ours
Parkes - Ours
Broghammer - Ours
Brunt - Ours
Tounkara - Ours
Subs
Gough - Ours
Patterson - Ours
Richards -Ours
Anyinsah - Ours
Harding - Our Youth team
Ollie Clark - our Youth team
Tom Lockyer - Our youth team
Injured: Gill, Virgo, Clucas, Kenneth, Clarkson, Harrold, Bevan, Harrison,
Hardly a team of stars but sensibly Managed. John Jo O'Toole is the only player to have gone back and that to Colchester who are not exactly flying and he can't get in their team!!!
Surely the Loan System is a two way thing in that it gives players games who otherwise would not get games. They are generally not going to be world beaters even in this lowly division. Our turnaround has mainly been down to too many under performing players under McGhee and good Management.
As we all know you can get loans in and they can be awful, irrespective of the division they have come from.

To conclude I do totally disagree with Loan players being used for season long loans and believe that it should only be Short term emergency loans up until say October/November. I then feel the loan system should open and NOT close until say end of February and then return to emergency loan.
IMO it is a very important system due to the number of "foreign players" allowed in our game and the fact that the rules are totally biased towards the Premier/Championship Clubs in ALL ways over the way they can accrue young players even though they have no intention of ever playing them.
