Some good points above. Despite the 2 wins, I can't see us winning our way out of this situation especially with others continuing to nick unexpected points ! We will just have to hope that we match York and Aldershot for all of the final games.

Thing is Coley, we are 4pts clear of the bottom 2 with the goal difference advantage, the point being missed I think by you is there are now only 5 games to go. The only way we will be relegated now is if we lose all 5 of our remaining games, 3 games at home, even if we only draw all 3 of them and we will be safe.

From reading this thread I flip from positive about our chances to thinking we're already down.

I didn't think my opinion was so easily swayed by others' views.
Maybe one day, Carayol will find London...

My opinion is not swayed by the doom-mongers. I have just returned from holiday. Before I went early in March I thought we were well and truly fu**ed. Results whilst I was away were unexpectedly good and performances have improved massively, and I am now much more hopeful. Apparently we played well in Northampton last night, but lost partly because we once again suffered at the hands of a pr**k who dares to call himself a referee.

I think it would be a mistake to be overly optimistic, but I prefer to see this weekend so far (one game!!) as an expected defeat for us, and two points dropped by each of Barnet, York and Aldershot. We are still in it, and safety is still in our own hands. One win and a couple of draws in our last five will, I believe, see us safe.

Keep the faith, three points on Monday is not unachievable. A draw would not be a disaster, but a win must be the target.

The way to look at it from my point of view Stevegull, with the G/D advantage however many pts we get over the last 5 games York have to get 5 points more than us, and Aldershot have to outscore our pts total by 6 pts..as said both these teams have to do this over 5 games, both have some real though games still to play, 49 pts will be enough I am so sure of it.

The trouble is that we can now be certain that we will be without Rene for up to two (I think its two - perhaps someone will confirm or put the record straight) of the most important games in the Club's history.

It is a third tot suspension so pretty sure it will be 3 games, however as I have said on another thread, if he gets another yellow so be it, no point crying over spilt milk, we have Jarvis who is playing well now, and Yoeman who is the type of player who will never give up, we will have to turn to these lads, trust and support them.

I think that the mistake being made by many is that 50 points is not a target and not a finishing line (its a historic guideline). Other than York (who gained a point on us today and didn't drop 2) everyone else is picking up unexpected points and fighting well, are we, I don't think so. Our 2 recent wins put us back in the fight but have not saved us yet BUT 52 points should do the job this year, so we need to step up a gear.

52 points is the target for this season. Two wins (for example against Bradford and Barnet) will see us stay up. In every case, a win against Barnet is a must, plus 3 more points against whoever and keeping our goal difference as it is or better.

It ain't over 'til the fat chav screeches.

You having a laugh, or what. Current form has allways been done over a teams last 6 matchs, so lets focus on us, and the current bottom 2 clubs

Aldershot 4 pts from 6 games
Torquay 8 pts from 6 games
York 2 pts from 6 games

So how on earth do you work out other teams are fighting well and we are not, pretty poor wind up attempt if you ask me.

dont mind opinions - but on this occasion you are wrong.

there are no "target" points to reach. every point and game counts.

as for york today, they did drop 2pts. they need wins. aldershot cant seem to win again.

its in our hands. thats all we can ask.

both york and the shots realistically need to win 3 games and we need to lose them.

in the worst case scenario, as dave/forvevertufc has alluded to, we just to match both their results and we are safe.

Seems to me that silly season on this forum has started again.

Two days ago everybody was over the moon that we had been on a good run, that we had pulled away from the bottom two, that we were playing well and that there was cause for reasonable optimism. After ONE set of games, yes ONE (!!!), suddenly (according to one person) we are in trouble, York are Barcelona and on a great run, and our fate is no longer in our hands. What utter pap, we are still doing OK, played well at a team that had won NINE games on the bounce, got robbed by a dodgy "referee", and York only got a DRAW at a team towards the bottom end of the table. Jeez, I despair. I am under no illusions about how difficult the job is, of course we could still go down, but there is good reason for hope!

Come on you yellows!
