He made 3-4 good saves and stops, two in the second half that looked like certain goals - the shot from 10 yards out and the one on one. I was down the other end for the first but had a clear view of the third - it was a free header from 6 yards out. It was right at him but he had no time to react

Echo this statement. We look better when we actually get the ball down and play. We now have two striking options in Williams and Ash, neither of whom have the attributes to hold up play from long ball. Even with Jarvis in the team it hasn't workedstandupsitdown wrote: ↑08 Nov 2023, 10:13 They have shown signs of being improvements but only if we play to their strengths.
Long ball isn't the way to do it.

We are out of the playoffs on GD and 9 points clear of the relegation zone, I think we will be okay!Wolborough wrote: ↑08 Nov 2023, 08:29 Get real - it’s relegation we should be concerned about not promotion.
We are not a good team, however I think we will probably scrape the playoffs. I don't think we will get promoted unless we somehow pick up form at the end of the season like last year.
Thankfully for us there are plenty of other poor and average teams in this league.

Torquay United v Yeovil Town, Tues 7th Nov, 7:45pm
Overall that was a chastening defeat. Yeovil are a completely different level to us, and we were lucky it was only 3-1. They carved us open with ease defensively and bar some poor finishing and good saves from Lovett, it would have been more. After half time at 2-0 they took their foot off the gas, as soon as we pulled one back they stepped it up and restored the lead and then were comfortable seeing out the win.
Yeovil were winning all the second balls, and they wanted it more as well as being a better team. We broke from their corner in the 2nd half and it was 3v2, and every one of their players sprinted back to stop our attack. When Yeovil attacked, most of our players ambled back, and that is a problem. Yeovil had too much time and space in our half without being closed down, which cost us the second goal.
Lovett - played well, made some good saves and not much he could have done on the goals
Donnellan - another who had a decent game in my opinion. I joked to my friend he was our best player defensively and going forward, which probably explains a lot about the rest of the performance.
Marshall/Tomlinson - no glaring mistakes, but just could not handle Yeovil
Moxey - been a great servant, but doesn't have the legs to play left back
McGavin - scored another great goal, but offered little else
Dolan - shame he went off injured early on
Stobbs - few good crosses second half but other than that did not do much
Collins - what does he offer? What position does he actually play?
Ash - he looks shot of confidence. We have taken a striker who scored 20+ goals in this league in a bottom half team and somehow made him terrible in the space of 15 games. Pointless playing him on the left wing.
Williams - felt sorry for him, the only service he got all night were long balls
Hanson - did okay
Hall - looked unfit and showed his age
De Silva - few glimpses of attacking threat for the 15 mins he got
Even if we do somehow manage to get promoted through the playoffs, what is the plan next season? This team would get beat week in week out in the National League.

The comment about Halstead being fit does Lovett a disservice. I thought he had a decent game and one of the few players who came out with any credit - he made some good saves and blocks 1v1s, and it looked like there was not much he could have done with any of the goals.standupsitdown wrote: ↑07 Nov 2023, 22:33 Well beaten by a better team.
Might have been different if Ash and Marshall hadn't missed good chances, of if Halstead had been fit but I think Yeovil will win this league by a mile.
I'd settle for second and two home play off games for promotion. We really ought to achieve that when you look at the teams above us. We will if we play as we did against Bath but we have to stop losing to the likes of Weston & Hampton.
Obviously a change of manager is needed but that's not going to happen.

New signing announced from Three Bridges - seems to be an attacking midfielder.

JARVIS OUT TILL CHRISTMAS
We have been very fortunate with the Lee Johnson connection, and had some good loan players from his clubs over the years. I posted in support of the Dolan loan, and I will support this loan as well.
However, football clubs can be fickle and Lee could be sacked in a few months if he does not do well. Therefore please forgive me for not jumping for joy that we can seemingly only get players to join us from Fleetwood.
We got a great loan player from Soton last season and hopefully aided his development - why have we not further developed that link? Pearce came in and barely got on the pitch.

McGavin shows flashes of ability, but he is too lightweight and is a luxury player. If we were playing well and he had two midfielders with legs either side of him, he would probably be good

As someone else said on the thread, Johnson had some credit in the bank with me for the last promotion and the near promotion back to the league. Last season was poor but again, I was willing to give a chance this season.
However we are a poor team, the recruitment has been terrible, the tactics and performances are awful and Johnson just spouts the same nonsense week in week out.
I don't think anything will change though, GJ will probably still be here in another 5 years time

Drink driving, driving whilst banned, driving at excessive speeds are all deplorable activities. He has been lucky that nobody, himself included, were seriously injured.
However, he was only 18 at the time. Not an excuse, but still of an age where mistakes are made. Its probably cost him his first chance of a pro career. Seemingly, without knowing all the details, he has made no further transgressions, and has worked hs way back to another shot as a pro with a club in League One.
I do agree that on the face of it an uninspired signing, given its yet another loan from a club Lee is manager of, but lets give him a chance. Given GJs history with loan signings though, its probably yet another loan to come in and warm the bench for a month!
