Re: Rene off

I'm going to try and defend Rene here and his decision to wait on other offers. Rene, obviously now with a family, wants the best for himself and his family in all terms, and this includes financially. And in order to get the best that he can he has to bide his time and see if anyone offers him a more attractive contract. I don't want to get into the whole argument of footballer's wages, but wouldn't everyone in this situation do the same? He has been at United for two seasons now and as much as we would all hope he has, he won't have become the biggest TUFC fan in the world who would do all he can to stay here. He's in the prime of his career and you have to give him credit for aspiring for greater things. I mean, I love Torquay, but if I was a footballer, and top scorer for a team like Wycombe (chosen as a random League 2 club I have no association with) and my contract was up I would be looking for a move upwards. I don't think its disrespectful I just think he's put himself first which in all honesty is probably a good thing!

The Difference between Home and Away

People have often been saying that Torquay's approach when away is a lot more negative than when playing at home which is understandable for any club. But, Torquay have seen the largest amount of goals in their home games compared to any other League 2 club this year and the least amount of goals in their away games. So why are our two styles so vastly different compared to any other club in the league?

You could also say it makes the Plainmoor the most exciting place to watch football in League 2!! 3.39 goals on average are scored in every game at Plainmoor which can only be bettered in England at The Emirates, The Etihad, at Bristol City and at Crystal Palace. Not bad at all...

Re: cheltenham town v torquay united - 13/5/12

I certainly don't think Lathrope deserves all the criticism he is getting at the moment. Yes, he made a mistake but so did many other players. He was just unfortunate that it led to the goal. And, if you watch him he's brilliant at mopping up and starting Torquay on their moves. The ball just falls near him and with one touch he lays it off simply and starts a move. He isn't a player who will get noticed for this but just watch him and you will see what I mean.

Re: Torquay United v Crewe Alexandra - 28/4/12

I must say I thought we were brilliant today. We got our passing back that we had lost for a few games and were passing it for fun at some times. I might even go as far as saying it was one of the best performances and games of the season and a brilliant last home game (hopefully). And you could see how every player wanted to win and hopefully they will be able to pick themselves up and beat the Hereford!
And what happened with the disallowed goal at the end?!

Re: AFC Wimbledon v Torquay United - 21/4/12

it's really only the same as it was before if it stays a draw, still need to win and Crawley draw or lose, just one less game for it to happen in, there's still hope! :)

Re: torquay united v southend united - 14/2/2012

Looking at the Southend forum I don't think they're very confident at all. Also they want to see their team go for it but they're not sure whether that will be the case or not either. I can see Torquay holding out for another 1-0 to be honest.

Re: A Spanish Year for Football

My question is " Does the domestic games top level need to suffer to get the national team to work properly?"
Yes, I think it does to be honest in the long run, but I'm not sure whether that is the best thing to do. I mean, it would be amazing to win the Euros or World Cup with an England team but would we rather win that or have an entertaining league to watch week in week out? It seems to me that to develop the English talent, for example Phil Jones, or the likes of Sturridge they need to be playing first team football a lot of the time. These may not be the best examples seeing they have played a fair bit this year but some players like Bertrand at Chelsea aren't getting the opportunities he would get if the league was just full of young English talent. And if you went down this road, suddenly the Premier League becomes just another average league which is not really what we want? The under 21s for England actually seem pretty good at the moment so talent is still getting through.
So, IMO i feel that if we are going to win one of these major tournaments as England the domestic league at the top level does need to suffer a fair bit, but, to be contenders, I think the Premier League can continue with the foreign players and investment as in some aspects they will help the young English players come through as better players.

All ticket games

The last two home games will be all-ticket due to big crowds expected but it is clear the club did not want to do this. Presumably if season ticket holders can't go, the maximum attendance will be affected? However, I do believe that it is probably the right decision.

A Spanish Year for Football

This is just a post to highlight the current dominance of Spanish football. At the moment they have done nothing this year, so to speak, but with 2 clubs in the Champions League semis (both expected to go through) and 3 clubs in the Europa League semis this is set to be a fantastic year for Spanish football. On top of this is Euro 2012 where they will be favourites to lift the trophy and also the Olympics, and with their youth quality they could well win a gold medal in that. And with the champions league winners medal comes as inevitable world club cup victory following soon after. Obviously these are all predictions but the Spanish really are over taking us as the world leaders of football. Is the anything we can do about it, or is best to just watch them pass us by and marvel?

Billy Bodin

Just seen that's he scored twice for Wales under 21s against Andorra under 21s so far. He is obviously full of confidence at the moment and proving to be a very good player. His spell at Torquay must've helped with that! :scarf:

Re: Howe Injury

I can't argue with that, and I'm still quite confident of getting a result. However, much of our success in recent games has been due to our defence and the chances are that it won't be as solid as before. It's not that I think Saah isn't capable, but the centre-back pairing hasn't had time to mould yet in a game situation so probably won't be as solid.
I just don't feel Taiwo has the ability to score as many goals as Howe if given the opportunity but he does work incredibly hard and is no bad player to have in the starting XI.
