The squad as it stands.....
Slowly but surely, day by day our club decreases in stature. Still there are supporters who think we should be able to attract players of a decent calibre but the reality is that we are geographically handicapped, financially crippled and our customer base (fans) is starting to fall away. Where's the attraction in signing for Torquay?
IF, and it's a big IF, we survive this season, we're only delaying the inevitable relegation to the Conference South. Once we get there, we bring in more kids from other clubs, several loanees and then the odd part timer signs on. A mid table finish and the following season, more of the same but with more part timers. The crowds drop to around 800 and then the decision is made to go part time.
Sad but probably true.
IanGull01 is right about contacts. After Nico demonstrated he had very few, I really thought Owers and Kuhl would have large contact books, especially Kuhl. Maybe he does but none of his contacts like him.

Expectations 2018
The wages Torquay pay, won't continue to pay for the mortgage I'm tied into, based on my salary at a Championship club.

Dream Big Lucy!lucy6lucy wrote: ↑27 Dec 2017, 19:34 We need to keep dorel that's crucial. What is concerning is that our new center forward is not being played. So he should go back to Iceland or whether he lives. Obviously Owers sees him unfit or most probably he's no better than what we have. The only answer to survival is to get a proper/proven striker on board that is out of contract in the summer with a championship/l1 club.
If I was a Championship striker, coming towards the end of my contract, I think I'd aim higher than a club in the bottom 3 of the Conference. Nice idea though.

My first ever live match was in 82 watching Ians testimonial versus Aston Villa. They brought a strong team down having won the European Cup only the year before.

Torquay v Aldershot match day thread
There has definitely been an upturn in performances over the past 2-3 weeks and it's no coincidence that results have followed.
Today I expected a tough game and would have gladly accepted a point beforehand but we played really well and could easily have taken all three points in the end.
Anybody who still thinks that the sacking of KN was a bad idea, really needs to get down to PLainmoor and watch the team now. Much fitter and also there is a pattern of play and an intent when attacking. Things are looking much brighter and I think we will comfortably move away from the relegation spots. If the results continue to improve, maybe we'll see the crowds start to rise above 2000 again.

FA Trophy First Round
I agree, we are not a big club who have the arrogance to decide what we will and will not chase.
We should give everything to the FA Trophy as it's a notable competition that ends with a day out at Wembley. It also gives our players more opportunities to gel and develop a winning mentality.

Torquay United v Leyton Orient thread
Today was the most enjoyable afternoon I've spent at Plainmoor for a good couple of years at least.
For once, we dominated play, out tackled, out passed and out scored our opponents comfortably. The defence looked confident and Davey was very assured at the back and most importantly, vocal.
Davis spent most of the first half outstripping Caprice at RB and having fun creating opportunities. Personally I thought MoM was either him or Reid. Jazzy B from the Fresh Prince was a weird choice.
On the subject of Reid, he and Keating worked their socks off pressuring defenders into making mistakes and the frustration of this finally told on Caprice when he lunged in with an awful challenge which rightly earned him a red card. 3-0 was a good solid win.
The crowd were enjoying themselves, the players were smiling and for a brief couple of hours, joy returned to Torquay United.
One final comment about Orient. They looked in desperate trouble and there's no cohesion throughout their team (sound familiar?). Hopefully they'll improve as long as it's not at our cost. Sad to see these two teams scrapping around at the bottom of the Conference.
Onwards and, dare I say, Upwards.

Realistically and after taking off the rose tinted spectacles, how close was he to really signing for us? It would have been a massive mistake for Moores career and this has been proved by the fact he's scoring at a much higher level, including one today for Rotherham at Doncaster.

I personally think we ARE playing better since Nicholson. The players seem to have a pattern of play and attack in pairs down the flanks. That was nowhere near the case under KN. We may not be winning games yet but we're at least creating chances and that wasn't happening.
