However if you pay attention you will see that I am continuing my one man protest about having 5 MOMs.. :)

You're not choosing 5 though and neither is anyone else, it's just a criteria for selecting the best one player over a season. I struggled to find a fifth player worthy of naming from yesterday and found it a toss-up between Bevan and Mansell as they were the only ones left who were not a disappointment in my opinion. Bevan had very little to do, Mansell was quiet by his standards, but I felt we dominated them in midfield for most of the game and it certaibly wasn't down to Wroe who needs a spell on the bench for me, just to stop him thinking he's irreplaceable, he needs to work harder at his game and is a shadow of the player we know he can be, has been for some time in my view. Stevens showed glimpses of what we know he can do, leaving Nicholson exposed being a glaring example. Gritton was poor, Robbo was average (at one point he lost an aerial challenge to a player who was then beaten comfortably by Eunan). That's how I came to my decision on who to vote for, as for the order, it was a toss-up between O'Kane and Branston, with the Pickler winning it for me with his superb second half display when I was worried we were going to throw away a point we more than deserved. Eunan was a worthy second place in my order. Then it was easily Ellis and Zebs for the following two slots, both worked very hard all game and put in a good shift.

So, 5 are asked for, and 5 I gave, simples !!

MOTM - Stevenage

As Gulliball is offline for a week he's asked me to create this thread for yesterdays game.

My choice is:

1 - Branston
2 - O'Kane
3 - Ellis
4 - Zebroski
5 - Mansell

Re: Stevenage vs Torquay - 18th September

I really despair sometimes, how anyone could say that Zebs offered nothing was clearly not watching him in my opinion. He was consistently our outlet and went past his man on plenty of occasions, even when faced with two defenders he held the ball up well and brought others into the game, especially O'Kane. Gritton, for me, was totally not at the races in the second half and that was what contributed to the pressure we found ourselves under towards the end of the game. It's not rocket science, if a player (Gritton) doesn't hold the ball up, or in most cases even get a touch on it, then we'll soon see the ball coming back down our end and that's exactly how it panned out. Kee or Benyon should have been brought on much much sooner, if they had then I'm convinced the three points were ours for the taking. As it was, we left feeling grateful for getting a point against a team that we really should have beaten comfortably.

A point on the road yes, but 2 points lost in my opinion.

As others have said, the antics of the Stevenage players at set-pieces were comical and the only time it looked to threaten us seriously the ball went straight out of play before being dragged back by Bostwick.

The referee was abysmal and the booking of Stevens a nonsense.

I was pleasantly surprised how well the home fans got behind their team, they really seem to have learned a lesson from us after our last visit there 2 seasons ago, good effort I thought. Without us there though I would guess their attendance would have been lower than our hardcore home support.

Awayday wrote:Yellow - No we are not saying attendance is a result of varied influences, what we are saying is attendance is about the number of people we get into the ground. What they learn at school, whether it be Geography, Economics or Demographics (I think we called that Technical Drawing in my day) doesn't help with getting bums on seats.

I suppose the PE teachers could play an influence and try and get them to play their favourite Torquay players during football?

Paul, I think you should have googled "demographics" :)

Thanks for that update mate, much appreciated.

Always had a good time in your social club and met some very decent fans in there so would be nice to do so again.

Re: Stevenage meet up

We always used to meet up in their own clubhouse prior to the game but a few of their fans told me on the last visit that they would be making it home fans only from last season on. Not sure if that's what they've done, maybe one of them will be registering in time for the match and can enlighten us.

wivelgull wrote:If you stand on the Pop. side it will become clear immediately what the problem is: the people there are either under 18 or over 60 - there's hardly anything in between. Whether this is true in other areas of the ground, I can't say, never (in 47 years of going to Plainmoor) have i ever visited another area. Those aged between 18-60 leave Torquay, those coming in don't like football or don't/won't support United. Consequently if attendances are to increase significantly, it's the 18-60 age group that need to be targeted.

What complete tosh.

Have you ever actually looked around the Popside?

Re: Torquayfans.com Player of the season award

I think we can do better than this.

How about a trophy, bought by our members on an annual basis, presented by a democratically voted "Poster of the Year"?

Joe can still do his presentation personally if he wishes and as it's an original idea the TFF can't moan at us for "pinching" their idea.
