Staying Up - Relegation Battle
An administrator can't just get rid of players unless he honoured their contracts so he might as well keep them on because he has to pay them anyway.
Boots & Laces is part of the stadium , it can't just be hived off, the freehold of the land it stands on belongs to Torbay Council. An administrator wouldn't start selling off assets until the club is liquidated.

Tonbridge Angels v Torquay United, March 16 3pm
We probably need 9 points for survival with 9 games to play so a draw would not be a bad result especially given our away form.
Last season if we had adopted game management late on in several games where we were drawing instead of going for a late win and getting hit on the counter we would have avoided relegation.

Nine games to play.
Next 3 games - Tonbridge (a), H&R (h), Yeovil (a) can't see us getting anything from those games.
The following 3 - WSM (h), Welling (a), Truro (a) theoretically winnable and make no mistake we've got to win them.
It's going to be squeaky bum time. We probably need 9 points to survive and it could go down to Havant at home on the last day of the season.
As an aside I wonder how Truro are possibly going to fit in all their remaining games, could they possibly face sanctions? As for Truro's former landlords, Plymouth Parkway, they will now play their next two home fixtures at Yate.

I doubt Smurthwaite is involved, he's never owned a football club that didn't own it's ground. Masters is far more preferable than Osborne and he actually saved Truro City along with his business partner.JimNichol'sdog wrote: ↑13 Mar 2024, 19:55 If Smurthwaite and Masters are the answer to the question, then Torquay United is deep in the s**t.

New Revenue ideas?
Was it her idea though? The club was already in hock to GI and she suggests cut price season tickets , then if I remember correctly she was sacked as Kevin Nicholson had to go and persuade season ticket buyers to cough up another pony.Southampton Gull wrote: ↑12 Mar 2024, 12:04 And don't forget the season ticket deal, that was her idea so her responsibility, nobody else's, end of!!
But miraculously she returns to the club as one of Osborne's directors. Cause and effect, or is that to close to libel?

You are talking about people's livelihoods, you know the sort of thing paying the rent, putting food on the table. Have a bit of compassion.North Curry House wrote: ↑11 Mar 2024, 14:19 Added to that the office staff needs pruning to match our level......ie We have volunteers, NOT paid people. Match day hosts should not be full-time, filling in with nondescript activities to justify their wages.
How we have a media manager and people below him defies belief, we are NOT Arsenal or Man City, we should have ONE doing specific work only. The guy doing the halftime draw is awful - get rid of him! One of the injured players could do that if he was not playing. The girl who is seen taking photos does very little ,- another wage saved. Even the Commercial Manager needs to update her game. All too often we do not have a sponsor, WHY...it is her job to find one for EVERY match. Find someone that is proactive and more appealing. Video analysts, kit man etc should be volunteers. I sincerely hope we cut our cloth accordingly, although I would remain full time.
ANY volunteers please step forward to help the Club. I would help in any way I could.
See you all tomorrow.
COYY.

Considering the goodwill shown to us by other football fans since Osborne pulled the plug that is a really classy comment.North Curry House wrote: ↑06 Mar 2024, 13:25 We will give them £25 then. They are not well supported.

To be honest I doubt he gives a toss. His trail of destruction already includes Reading and Swindon speedway and numerous greyhound stadia.gullsgullsgulls wrote: ↑03 Mar 2024, 08:49 I presume the club going bust would reflect badly on the Clarke Osborne brand - makes his bullsh*t tale even less believable for the next venture.

Where's the money going?
The 1800 break even attendance was based on a playing budget of £330,000. Like you say the infrastructure of the club was down to bare bones.Taelee73 wrote: ↑25 Feb 2024, 12:14 Like I said, in Nicholsons days of driving the bus it was 1800. But we had him, the Groundsman and maybe one office worker, plus the bare bones of playing staff
It would be great news if the debt had been written off, but wouldn't Osbourne have made a big deal of doing that? All he's said is he's gifted the club the stadium plans.

Come on off it. If someone was seriously contemplating investing in a football club they wouldn't make an approach through a fan's forum run by people that have no official connection to the club.Yeofan wrote: ↑23 Feb 2024, 23:21 Fair enough. I'm extensively involved with startup funding, and have, in my time invested ( succesfully ) in several football clubs. I also have a lot of contacts on the UK BA circuit. If you want to attract a buyer you need to be prepared to answer questions, and also be receptive to potential interest no matter how unlikely the source.
However , as they say on DD, "I'm out". Hope you find someone elsewhere.

Torquay United v Aveley F C Saturday 24 Feb KO 3pm
I'm not going to predict any result but just want to say let's be patient. The players (and all the non-playing staff) have received a terrible shock this week and their families financial well being will be at the fore front of their minds. It is going to take time for Downes to effect any improvement in the way the team play so for this Saturday let's just show appreciation for everyone connected with the football club (with the exception of George Edwards if he is still around).
