Taunton Town v Torquay United Tues 16 April KO 19.45.

knightmaregull wrote: 15 Apr 2024, 18:03 Am I right in thinking that Dan Lavercombe will be suspended following his recent red card and do they will have a reserve keeper playing? That said, Bath could have played without a keeper so it sure how much of an advantage it will actually be!
I think all suspensions have ended for this season, and those outstanding will be carried over to next season. Hope I’m wrong!

Bath City v Torquay United Sat 13th April 3pm

I was just reading Wrexham’s Rob McElhenney’s comments following Paul Mullins goal in yesterday’s 6 -0 win against Forest Green, thereby confirming Wrexham’s promotion.

He said -"This may be my favourite goal of his. Not a game winner or anything fancy. Just perseverance, hustle and grit," he wrote.

"@PMullin7 knows the people in that stadium didn't pay their hard-earned wage to watch guys give 95%. They deserve 100% and he gives it to them All. The. Time."

Sums it up perfectly.

Staying Up - Relegation Battle

standupsitdown wrote: 12 Apr 2024, 16:41 Updated after a further point deducted Friday 12th April.

Hemel 44 49 -15
Truro 42 48 -11
Torquay 43 47 -8
Eastbourne 43 45 -25
Dartford 44 43 -18
Taunton 42 42 -26
Havant 43 36 -34
Dover 43 27 -33

It’s looking a lot better than it did on Saturday but the deduction of one point makes quite a difference.

Whatever the results on Saturday we can’t be safe even if we beat Bath.

We will be safe if we beat Taunton and draw with Bath or Havant.

We will be safe if we better Taunton’s result on Saturday and draw with them Tuesday.

We will be safe if we win two games and draw one.

We will be safe if we win one game and Taunton or Eastbourne lose and draw one of theirs, or Truro lose three, or Hemel only get one point from their two games.

We will be safe if we win one game and draw one game and Taunton or Eastbourne lose one of theirs, or Truro lose three, or Hemel don’t win either of their two games.

If we get just one point Taunton would have to gain 7 points from their 4 games (in eight days).

There’s some chance that we could stay up even if we lose all three games but the loss of that extra point means it may well go to the last game now.

Taunton

Farnborough – away
Torquay – home
Weston – home
Hemel - home

Dartford

Yeovil – away
Truro – home

Eastbourne

Chippenham – home
Weston – away
Braintree – away

Torquay

Bath – away
Taunton – away
Havant – home

Hemel

Slough – home
Taunton – away
Appreciate the work you put into these calculations

Apparently there will be no further suspensions for the rest of the season ( according to the commentator I’m listening to on the Taunton V Slough game - yes, this is how desperate I’ve become!).

They will be carried on to next season

Just bloody tell us!

Checking back on here and all over the bloody internet every 5 minutes is bloody stressful. It's bad enough being a Torquay fan right now without all this 'who is it?' malarky.

Football is supposed to be enjoyable (for the most part), checking the fixtures, planning away games, looking forward to Saturdays/Tuesdays (or every day of the week if you hail from across the water in Kernow)... but, right now, my blood pressure is through the roof.

Hmmmm, maybe there is something in this rumour. I see that James Watt has been dating local girl and national celebrity Georgia Toffolo since last year. Maybe he wants to buy her a nice present

Taelee73 wrote: 10 Apr 2024, 12:45 Well I'd have thought a confidentiality agreement would mean TUST not even saying they've put in a bid!

Secondly, didn't TUST state they would need £150k from us supporters to fulfil next season's obligations. If so, you'd have thought it obvious they weren't going to satisfy the requirements of having funding in place.

Unless I'm reading it all wrong?
I would’ve thought that the TUST £150k input would almost certainly have been guaranteed by the consortium until such time that the £150k would have been raised ( or not) via the club shares scheme, and then repaid.

Dave_Pougher wrote: 10 Apr 2024, 09:40 On the Torquay Talk forum there’s a suggestion that The Torbay Weekly posted that the Edwards, Hayman bid was the preferred bidders and that was then edited and removed. No great surprise and I do hope it’s wrong but saves me a journey for the last game of the season

I refuse to give my money to an individual that has overseen our demise.

I heard that the Hayman bid was NOT the preferred bidder, but don’t know if this is true. Maybe it’s Pete Masters after all…..

Guess we’ll just have to wait and keep wondering

Hereford Gull66 wrote: 07 Apr 2024, 22:02 I shall be attending but not with a great deal of confidence, probably much the same as the players.
I keep thinking that I will wake up and the players will start performing to their potential, some have in previous seasons and next season at another club will prove what a shambles this season has been.
Perhaps one or two will standup and put in a heroic game, driving the rest to give us a memorable end to the season……. I can dream positively.

Head says another defeat 3-1 fading in the last 20 minutes, however I will be doing my bit to cheer us on. coyy
I feel exactly the same way as you Hereford Gull66. I just can’t stop myself from believing that this time we really will put in the performance I’ve been waiting for all season. The reality is such a let down each time, but I still can’t stop myself from hoping and believing.

I suppose it’s all part and parcel of being a Torquay United fan. I’ll be there tonight and at each remaining game cheering my team on, whilst absorbing the pain when it all goes horribly wrong. Whilst I keep hoping, I’m always prepared for the worst - you have to be if you support TUFC. At the moment I still have a team, so I will still keep believing until the very end.

There is just so much riding on this game it is massive. Yes we are crap we all know that BUT we dont need many wins to avoid the drop. I would actually think we will get a decent crowd on Saturday. Exeter/Plymouth dont have a game.

Hampton maybe the form team but they are no world beaters - we simply have to man up, the players have to get a victory somehow.

No offence, but dont withdraw your support, now is not the time. Get yourself along there. Create a hostile atmosphere for the visiting team and try and influence the referee.

There is plenty of time for recriminations but not now. 3 home games and 3 away games against Taunton, Truro and Bath where we will either outnumber the home fans or have decent support.

Staying Up - Relegation Battle

I was at the Tonbridge Angels game yesterday as well as the Taunton game on Tuesday. Without a doubt Torquay started the Tonbridge game very differently than on Tuesday night. They started with real purpose and energy. Even after going a goal down I felt confident that we could still win the game. Then came the second half where we visibly deflated after they scored again, and from then on there was only one team in it.

It’s a long journey home when you’ve lost 1 - 4………

I genuinely feel for the players, not knowing if they are going to get paid in a couple of weeks . Whether they’ll able to pay their car lease, mortgage / rent etc. utility bills. At the very least it will have a negative impact on their credit rating. Several have families to support and this must impact their ability to perform on the pitch.

Trying to make sense of one of the worst performances I’ve seen from Torquay on Tuesday ( and I’ve seen plenty), I wondered whether the team may have been told about the 10 point deduction and embargo prior to the Taunton game, before it was released to the press the following morning. This might in some way explain the disinterested and lacklustre performance that night.

However, what they need to recognise and fast, is if they want to attract other clubs, then they need to be at the top of their game, showing hunger, passion and commitment, if not for Torquay United, then for their own future security.

In the meantime I shall still be going to each match and suffering the pain that comes with being a Torquay United supporter.

Points deduction

Does anyone know whether this embargo will affect our 2 loan players? I know WJD is a season long loan, but Transfermarket shows Jude Boyd’s loan as finishing on 5th March, even though he’s still ( was ) here as of yesterday?
