Torquay vs Braintree 28/08/23 15:00
That was a tough watch. Reading back through the posts (and I’m a glass half full man) we are winning because the opposition is actually just worse than us. We can improve but on the pitch management and leadership appears zero. Hall and Dawson are vital or an experienced loan. The luck will run out and we are going to get spanked. We must have incoming??..and to get 2500 through the gate is amazing…the one positive constant.

So we’re hanging on in games and still winning. No Dawson Moxey or Hall. Lapslie carrying a chronic ankle problem but still putting in everything. Four loans to come. A young squad. Watched Wrexham last season..they were dire at times but still won games. This is football. If GJ is responsible for last years shot show then he’s responsible for todays win.

Q&A with Gary and Downesy.
Owners of clubs…unless they’re genuine home grown fans are their own masters. We may have folded without them. Hopefully (wilful ignorance perhaps) their motive for pumping millions into our club are benign. It doesn’t materially matter day to day as we have no control over their actions. We’ve survived somehow against the odds and currently I’d take survival over success at the moment..low expectations are rarely disappointed. Storming this league is entirely possible and if we keep the squad with good loan additions momentum could get us back into the league. GJ seems to have a good relationship with the owners and they appear to support him. GJ is the man with the job to and we have to support him. If we’re clear top of the league at Christmas I’m happy. Anything less and it’s back into survival mode and probably without Jarvis..

Q&A with Gary and Downesy.
I got to speak to GJ and AD before the first home game of last season. There was probably nothing they did not know about the upcoming season..they knew it was going to be really tough and it was. Stating the obvious…it’s football with a million variables and anything can happen which is why we love it. GJ still has credit in the football bank with this fan so let’s put last season away and do what we can. Turn up and supported Team.

Players Under Contract
Long loans from Argyle and Exeter have got to be an option..local players stuck in reserve games need competitive games..why haven’t we been able to do this on a regular basis??

Altrincham v Torquay United, 3pm, Saturday 22nd April 2023
Barrow are the way to go. Training ground in Manchester…covers a huge area. Move the training ground to Bristol…M5 M4 links. Cardiff Bizzle Swindon Reading South Birmingham all less tan about hour away..radical but we can’t keep failing the same way. The fact we were a penalty kick away from Lg2 last season was miraculous…we can’t punch above our weight consistently. Any manager will struggle to recruit unless we pay League wages which we can’t. Johnson nearly got us there but look what happened to Hartlepool despite their fan base.

Altrincham v Torquay United, 3pm, Saturday 22nd April 2023
What to do…do I a drive to Altrincham to see possibly my fourth relegation game over 45 odd years and then drive all the way back wondering if I can stomach the Wrexham game? I told myself it’ll go to the last game needing a win and here we are. There’s no correct answer I know…

SO WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE
Beating Barnet and losing to Dorking. Football makes no sense and expecting it to isn’t sensible. GJ looked tired and enraged. He knows he potentially has a team that can perform but he’s running out of time. I’m hoping the players are getting to realise the urgency of our situation. The loan players need to prove themselves to their clubs and our players need to sell themselves. CLE to Notts shows how it can happen. GJ knows exactly where we are and why. He’s taken chances on players his whole life hoping that he can improve them and done very well. Losing that play off final was hard but starting again from scratch even harder. I still think we will survive Tope Jarvis Moxey Laps and Hall need to fit for the last 10 games. If we go down…I’ll still be a Gulls fan and I’ll still turn up and travel because that’s football. (The other teams I look for are Blackpool and Telford : I’m on relegation hat-trick)

Will we stay up?
Having seen 9 games this season…we are getting better and I know that’s relative. We have previously over performed for a club of our size and location. There’s a team in the squad that are definitely mid-table. GJ will get us out of this but it will be a slow grinding slog and if it’s a last minute last game must win/draw fight I’d take that. Keep the best (four spring to mind) and start the rebuild.
