Torquay v Maidstone. 28/02/23.

A very poor game in terms of quality but today was just about 3 points so I’m not too fussed. It looks almost certain Maidstone will be 1 of the 4 that go down after today although their next 3 matches are Yeovil, Scunthorpe and Oldham. It’s going to be a big ask but realistically any points we can get out of Woking and Notts will a bonus.

Torquay v Maidstone. 28/02/23.

If ever there was a must win game then this is it. With Woking away then Notts County after we simply have to win today. Defeat for Maidstone and it’s hard to see them having enough games to get out of trouble. I think we will have enough going for a 2-1 win.

Will we stay up?

I would still say it’s much more likely we go down then stay up. I think we are going to need at least around the 50 point mark to give ourselves a chance which means around 30 points from the last 20 games. What we haven’t been able to do is put a run of games together this season. Yes the Maidstone game is a must win but it isn’t enough. We also have Boreham Wood, Woking, Notts C and Chesterfield 3 away from home in the next 5 matches. Where are our wins going to come from?

Also worth noting we’ve already played Scunthorpe, Gateshead, Oldham, Yeovil, Maidenhead, Aldershot and Dorking all at home with the Maidstone game being the only home game left against one of our relegation rivals.

Be surprised if this goes ahead. Pitch was in a bad way against Halifax and more rain since then. Yellow warning for more rain overnight until 12.00 tomorrow

WILL GOODWIN

Surprised a league 1 club would be interested. He was ok for us but didn’t strike me as a player capable of playing 2 leagues higher. That being said he hardly much in the way of service or much to work with.

Torquay United v Yeovil Town - 26th December 2022

I think the point is Andrews is clearly overweight and not fit enough to be a professional footballer. The general issues around the level of fitness of our squad has been noticed by many on here this season. Diet is key part of players fitness and recovery. It’s just another area where we are behind other clubs.

Gary Johnson, Red card ?

DB57 wrote: 28 Dec 2022, 19:08 You’re right about Durkin but, the truth of the matter is that Cooper got the better of Johnson tactically, we didn’t perform in the second half and Yeovil got a share of the points.
We have one home win all season and that’s not all down to poor referees.
This is spot on. Yes arguably the Yeovil lad could have had a 2nd yellow but you can’t complain about Crowes sending off with both challenges deserving a yellow. In any case it was so late in the game it made no difference.

Basically our management did not react to Yeovil’s changes at half time. It was poor management imo and not the referees fault. Ultimately we were lucky to get a point.

Is our Squad Match Fit?

Clearly our squad doesn’t look fit enough and you have to wonder what sought of physical preparation is going on at the club. As for Andrews he is clearly overweight and shouldn’t be anywhere near a professional side. Kalvin Phillips was dropped by Man City this week for the same reason and so should Andrews until he is in shape.

Torquay United v Yeovil Town - 26th December 2022

Completely deflated by that performance today. First half we were pretty decent and could have been more than 1 up at half time. Yeovil offered very little and we had a few good chances.

Second half however was a complete shambles. Their 2 subs and change of formation completely destroyed us as we gave away chance after chance. We were lucky to get a point. The most frustrating thing was there was no reaction from the management to Yeovil’s changes. The goal we conceded was so inept from a defensive point of view. The players and GJ moaned at the ref at the end and whilst the ref wasn’t great it wasn’t him that cost us the points.

I see no way out of this mess. I have to say also the subs that came on offered nothing. Corrie Andrews is clearly overweight and doesn’t look fit enough.

It looks like it. The Bench is sold out and just a handful of tickets available in the family stand. Anyone know how many Yeovil are bringing? I would assume at least 700 so should be around 5,000 today.

On the pitch I know this has been said a lot this season but this really is a must win. 4 points out of this double header and we give ourselves a chance of getting out of this mess. There can be no excuses today.

I’m going for a 3-2 win (ellis, Goodwin and Jarvis). Att 4980.

Will we stay up?

Well after todays results the situation looks a bit more promising. Scunthorpe, Oldham, Maidstone and Gateshead all losing.

Our next 3 league games, Oldham and then the double header against Yeovil may well decide our season.

Gary Johnson, stick or twist?

DevonBee wrote: 28 Nov 2022, 16:04 In the Torquay Talk poll on should he stay or should he go ?
71.8 % voted Johnson OUT........the time is NOW
The time to act was 2 months ago probably after Wrexham. I feel we have left it too late now for any new manager to come in and change our season. We have wasted 11 games since then, many of which on paper were winnable. Who would now want the job and likely have relegation on their CV. They would be taking over a disjointed squad where the only quality is from loanees.

I’m starting to think we have to hope GJ can somehow drag us out of this mess this season and we make a change for next season. That would need to come with a complete rebuild of how the club is run and hopefully a young forward thinking manager.

We will be lucky to win another 3 or 4'
It really is time Faith r a new manager just see how f we get some kind of boost!
This once again its hard to believe how quickly one can fall! Guess that's football
Yes this is the problem, I said at the start of the thread, realistically we will need around the 50 point mark to have a chance of staying up. Maybe slightly more or slightly less but there is no evidence this team can get there.

I think that’s us done after todays result. With Maidstone and Yeovil winning we just fall further adrift. No sign of improvement in results l.
