Torquay Utd v York City - Sat 15th April 3pm

I think this would easily be our greatest escape. We still need another 9 or 10 points I think which means winning 7 and drawing 1 from our last 8 games. For a team that has been as bad as we have all season that would be remarkable.

I disagree this is the easiest of our remaining games. York will be giving everything today. I think Altrincham game is very winnable. A mid table side with nothing to play for. Let’s just hope we are still in the running by that point.

Torquay Utd v York City - Sat 15th April 3pm

It seems like we say this every week but this is our biggest game of the season by far. A must win to keep the momentum going, especially as I expect Aldershot to pick up 3 points at home to Scunthorpe.

Should be a decent atmosphere and it looks as though a good number of York fans have made the trip. A point for them and they are pretty much safe. I’m not making a prediction for this game it’s hard to call and could go either way.

Will we stay up?

We’re definitely still favourites to go down but at least we’ve given ourselves a chance. We are capable of beating York and Altrincham and York next week is must win, however can we get points from the other 2 games? Hopefully Wrexham will have the league done by our game and come to us with nothing to play for and are looking forward to a weekend piss up in Torquay.

It really does show what a mess we were in that even after 4 wins we are still favourites to go down. Scunthorpe have now joined Maidstone and it’s looks like it’s over for Yeovil as well. Gateshead have continued their good form and it looks like they are safe now. That leaves one of us, Aldershot, York, Dorking and Maidenhead.

Looking at the remaining games I don’t 2 more wins will be enough. That would take take us to 49 points. Aldershot face an already relegated Scunthorpe next game so we have to beat York which would drag them back into it. Potentially Dorking are catchable given their GD but their fixtures don’t look that hard. Aldershot and York still have to play each other in the penultimate game which could be huge.

Maidenhead v Torquay Utd - BH Mon 10th April 3pm

Cruisinho wrote: 10 Apr 2023, 17:20 Another great result. I am really glad Nouble got his goals too. Cannot fault the team the last few games, and given ourselves a chance to actually stay up.

With other teams picking up points, Saturday is another must win, and the Altrincham game has also become must win. My fear is we are also going to need to beat Chesterfield or Wrexham to stay up.
You may well be right but on the plus side with Wrexham beating Notts today they may well have the league wrapped up by then.

I think your right away allocation is 800 i believe. We will have a much better idea of whether we have a chance of staying up by 5pm today. I’ll be keeping a close eye on Eastleigh Aldershot and Yeovil Dorking games aswell but ultimately I think this is must win and at the very least we must not loose.

happytorq wrote: 07 Apr 2023, 18:49 Need to beat Maidenhead on Monday, yes. shows how screwed we were that we've won 3 games in a row and still need another one to even comtemplate the idea of safety.

Maidehand probably safe at this point, but they might start to look over their shoulder a bit if we can get that result.

Eastleigh showed today they're a horrible, horrible team, and exactly not the kind of side you want to be against away from home when you need a result, so I could see them beating Aldershot. We probably want Yeovil to beat Dorking on Monday, too. If those three results go the right way it'll start to look really tight down there (even more so if Gateshead lose as well, although they're in great form, so that seems unlikely).

As ever - we just have to take care of the things we have control over. That meants winning monday. If other results, don't go our way, no big deal, we'll just have to beat York on saturday - which we'd need to do anyway.
Monday really could be the pivotal point in the season. If results go our way we could be 1 point from safety and 3 points behind Dorking. If results go the other way we could be 7 points adrift with 4 games remaining so effectively relegated.

After today’s fantastic win there is a glimpse of hope now. The Aldershot Yeovil draw was the ideal result.

Monday is now huge and I feel like we still need a win at Maidenhead to keep the momentum going. IF we can win there then Yeovil Dorking could be really important. A win for Yeovil would really drag Dorking back into the relegation scrap. Aldershot face a tough away game at Eastleigh. Yorks win at Chesterfield probably means they aren’t catchable. After Monday we will know if we have a chance or not.

Look at Aldershots fixtures. Home games against Yeovil, Scunthorpe and Altrincham. They also play York. They would have to completely capitulate for us to have any chance of catching them. We’re done for and let’s be honest we deserve to go down over the course of the season.

With York winning our task looks even harder. They are now 9 points above us but it’s effectively 10 given the goal difference. I just don’t see how we catch any of the teams currently on 46 points. That leaves Gateshead and Aldershot and both have enough winnable games remaining.

With those saying 4 wins may be enough I think that’s optimistic, especially given our GD. 5 wins, which is obviously a massive ask would put us on 52 points which is the kind of total I think we would need. 6 points is required over the bank holiday weekend to keep any hope alive.

Scunthorpe United v Torquay United, 3pm, Saturday 1st April, 2023

portugull wrote: 01 Apr 2023, 18:09 If we can win our next 3 games we will have a chance.

Eastleigh on Friday at Home, Maidenhead away and York at Home in 2 weeks all massive games. Win them and we have 45 points.

Maidstone are gone, Scunny look in big trouble, and I guess it is 2 from 3 to join them namely United, Yeovil and York.

As I say win the next 3 and we would be on a winning run. Prayer mat time.
I would throw Gateshead and Aldershot in it as well. Yes Gateshead have games in hand but they have 9 games to play in the space of 25 days, which is a big ask. They have Yeovil and Scunthorpe at home in the next 2 so will have a better idea after that.

Aldershot are a streaky side and still face Yeovil, Scunny and York so could easily be dragged into it.

Scunthorpe United v Torquay United, 3pm, Saturday 1st April, 2023

Great result and at least it gives us some hope whilst at the same time effectively relegating Scunthorpe. There seems to be far too much focus on Wrexham game. I would think we probably need 4 wins from the 5 games before that to even give ourselves a shot at staying up in the last game.

TUFC Annual Accounts

Obviously terrible numbers. As a club we are not generating enough income. We should be able to generate better attendances which would help to some degree but you can hardly blame the causal fan for not turning up this season. That being said we are hardly unique in the amounts we are losing. Do any lower league clubs run at a profit? I very much doubt it.

Cruisinho wrote: 29 Mar 2023, 11:23 I think it is too little too late to stay up after last night’s result.

I think we need to win the next 4, and then beat Altrincham. I cannot see us get anything from the Chesterfield or Wrexham games.

Saturday will be an interesting game, a draw helps no one, so could see a gung go attacking game for the last 20 mins.
I agree we are too far adrift with not enough games remaining. We have to catch up 9 points on Dorking, 10 on Aldershot and York, 7 on Gateshead but they have 2 games in hand. I’ve looked at these teams fixtures and they all have enough winnable games in there. 5 wins only takes us to 49 points which i don’t think will be enough. Unlikely but we would have to win our next 4 and hope that drags us back into contention.

PLAYERS CONTRACTS FOR NEXT SEASON.

I may get slated for this but I don’t actually think McGavin and Hanson are that bad. I think our style of play (long ball) suits neither, particularly McGavin. Marshall is a poor defender imo and simply not good enough. Crowe again doesn’t look up to it although I can’t quite work out what’s gone wrong with him given his pedigree as a youth player. Jarvis has been the best of our signings but I can’t imagine he wants to be knocking around NLS.

I think the problem with our recruitment has been we signed several players hoping they might turn out to be ‘marquee’ players. There doesn’t seem to have been any thought about signing players that could be moulded in a team. What level of thought went into identify weak areas of the squad and targeting key positions? Our scattergun approach to recruitment this season is one of the main reasons we are where we are.
