Facing Reality

I don't want to sound like I know it all but come on, it does not take a fully qualified football manager to know that players like Jamie reid give absolutely nothing to the team, I mean it must be the most infuriating thing going to games... we pay to watch Jamie reid, not saying I am any better I am not but how is he a footballer?

I am bringing this up as it is extremely concerning that our 'manager' the man that is supposed to be leading us forward and is suppose to mastermind our 'promotion' from the NLS still chooses to pick him wether that be for the bench or for the starting 11 it is equally infuriating.

unfortunately mr Osborne seems to just be in it for the money this new stadium is all for money: concerts/events, hotels, and activities within the ground, all for the money, if we had a owner who actually cared for the club like a fan owers would be out, we have scraped through home games the 1-0 win were pretty awful and the 2-0 was slightly better but still awful and was shadowed over by the fact that east Thurrock just have an awful team, at home we have been scarping through and carried by the fact that these players are too good for the NLS but under management of owers they do not play to their ability, away from home has been abysmal.

you can say its early doors and Gary has recruited well which are both true but we have seen it last year and it seems to be continuing this year, he has had enough payers of his own to bring in he cannot blame it on anyone else, recruitment has been good but mr owers can not get the best out of anyone I am afraid

I hope he proves me wrong but at the moment the quicker he's out he quicker we can progress.

Oxford City v Torquay United 14/08/18

Like seriously is it not concerning that Gary has so much faith in reid, he's a pro manager been playing the game his whole life and can not see that reid adds absolutely nothing to the game, constantly losing possession, not knowing what to do, can not see anybody's runs, what does he bring to the team that is blindly going over my head ?

The Captain jumps ship

desperado wrote: 19 Jun 2018, 16:38 As someone who saw 23 games last season, I would say it is his defending which WILL be missed
Very good at clearing the ball from the danger areas. It is his use of the ball which wont be missed
I agree, I think he would've been decent at a lower level but he surrendered possession nearly every time he played it out of defence.

Player Search - Who Will Turn Up?

Its not looking great but we just have to be patient I guess, even though we have been for a while but there is not allot we can do regarding bringing anyone in so we have to take Gary's word when he says "recruitment is king" but the only way we are gonna find out if it all worked out in the end and Gazza worked his magic is at the end of the transfer window :/ but at the moment its looking bleak with just Bobson Bawling, a player with a long dark history being plagued with numerous injuries thrown into a very thin squad at the moment. But I am not going to judge until we kick off the season and see where it goes from there, COYY

Player Search - Who Will Turn Up?

Sorry to continue the nicho thing but he really never had a plan B and looked a bit losed when things were going wrong, also screwed us over with all those players he brought in who were terrible and left us with no money to bring anyone else in, fair enough kept us up for a few seasons but he was no legend.

MellowYellow wrote: 02 Jun 2018, 17:19 In answer to your question - yes I have. Not numerous, but enough to allow a judgement. Indeed I have on numerous occasions heaped praise on Dulwich Hamlets manager Gavin Rose and his style of play. But Dulwich's football philosophy of open attractive football in the lower leagues is far and few between. Hereon we will beg to differ. For some the NLS is ready made for McGinty - its primarily route one 'hoof-ball' at its finest.

Your initial post made reference to what is required at NLS level " Proven competitors... and winners" and yet you name teams like Weston, Bath, Chippenham, none of whom even made a play-off place. I actually had to read your post twice to make sure it was not a wind-up as you named Poole Town as a possible recruitment centre. In fairness you did state "I see less 'National League capable players' than you might imagine". Nonetheless if you think Luke Young is a "bog average non league footballer"' this tells me you never saw Poole play last season.

So at the risk of choking on my Shish Kebab, I used Truro as the team in response to your requirement of 'proven competitors' with a winning mentality to reach the play off finals and not because of location.

Just on one other point of issue. You say "let's just leave the manager to recruit and make a judgement once the season is under way". Was that not one of your primary gripes in allowing Nicho to do the same last season. Just asking the question.

So lets leave the manager to recruit, as in his own words “Recruitment is king" and has "one aim and that’s to win the league" because as he says “ I know what it will take".
If this league is as you say "route one" hoof it up the field McGinty will be an absolute must keep I've never seen him not hoof it up the field when he gains possession hahaha

Player Search - Who Will Turn Up?

Owers says he know's what it takes but does he? last time I checked he was 11th with Bath City, we were doomed from the start we picked an average manager in the NLS to survive in the VNL it was never going to work, the only way we are gonna go up next season is if we get a group of lads who are willing to die for each other to win that title, not Jamie Reid the most clueless footballer I've ever seen and so on. Players like Elliot Romain who made up for what he lacked in finishing with his incredible work ethic and the determination to win no matter the odds, but it seems time is running out and the season ahead is looking gloomy.

Player Search - Who Will Turn Up?

Anyone else get frustrated with McGinty's inability to keep the ball on the deck? I understand you have to clear the ball now and again everyone does it but it seems whenever he is on the ball he feels the need to hoof the ball every single time and instantly surrenders possession putting us under pressure again, i know sometimes you have to do it when you are under pressure from opposition defenders but he feels the need to do it every time!!

However he isn't that great going forward, his crossing last season can only be described as woeful

An attribute i would rate highly for a wing-back!
I agree end product not great but hopefully he will improve in the summer and the drop in quality will flatter his crossing ability a bit more hahah
