Torquay United v Yeovil Town - Boxing Day
My first game for a while (since Yeovil at home last season). I thought it was a very competitive and entertaining game. There was little between the two sides until the sending off which was very soft). By the letter of the law it was a red card but let's be honest, Lapslie did go down like a fairy. I don't like to see that. However, we took full advantage and deserved the win. Danny Wright looked a threat and if he can stay fit, that is encouraging for rest of the season. I'm still not sure about McDonald though. His distribution hasn't improved and he almost gifted Yeovil a way back into the game.

Good post DWP, I couldn't agree more. I think we have the best manager in the league and that counts for a lot. To be fair, we have recruited some decent players also. That with GJ's knowledge, I think we will be right up there again. Its looking positive.

Pre Season
Just wondering, we're there many Gulls supporters at the game today. Any estimates?

Good to see Olaf on the score sheet. Hope he gets a decent opportunity during pre-season.

I was just pointing out why we aren't developing players. Your right, until we are back in the football league there is little chance. We won't attract the better coaches paying peanuts.

Desperado. We can't do business like this because: 1. We don't have an academy. 2. The current youth set is abysmal. The standard of coaching is third rate. 3. Because if thus, we keep loosing our better players to saints Southwest, Exeter and Plymouth.

Can't imagine for one minute we got £475.000. He certainly wasn't worth anywhere near that.

I've read the article and I think Gary is talking about racial abuse in football generally. Its a hot topic at the moment. I'm pretty certain he isn't talking specifically about Torquay fans.

I agree that our set pieces are shocking. CLE was chipping the ball into the box. There was nothing to attack. Surely we have someone that can do better.UnitedinDevon wrote: ↑20 Feb 2021, 20:15 It would be fantastic if our regular set oiece takers CLE Andrews Whitfield could actually put a decent ball in and beat the first man they have been extremely poor over the last few games and it's not acceptable for a full time club

On the evidence of what we saw on Boxng day I'm not sure Yeovil are in a false position. They were woeful and have been on several occasions this season. But I accept it's likely to be tighter this time. If we are tight at the back i still think we will score a couple of goals I'm sticking my neck out on this one; another win for me. GJ will definitely have them up for it.
There seams to be so much confidence running through the squad. More than when we won National league South.

I dont like chopping and changing goalkeepers just for the sake of it like what I thought happened last season. But Covolan will be bursting to prove himself again so he might just get the nod for Yeovil away. I dont think that would be a bad thing either.Southampton Gull wrote: ↑28 Dec 2020, 23:18 After a great start he's been slipping of late. Perhaps it is time to let him know standards must be kept. He's mature enough now to take it on the chin and knuckle down.
